Anyone with a small breed have their seizures managed by zonisamide alone?
My Chihuahua mix has idiopathic epilepsy, and has been on zonisamide for a little over a year. He has focal seizures. Whenever I do research on zonisamide most sources claim that it's usually used in combination with another anticonvulsant, however my dog has responded quite well to Z alone, and has only had a couple very mild, quick episodes since starting the drug (he used to have 3 - 4 a month). I've always wondered why he has responded so well, if maybe his small size has something to do with it.
Just curious if anyone else has experience with Z on their small breed, and if they use it alone or if you've needed to add other drugs on top of it? I'm also curious if any large breeds have had success on just zonisamide, but I sort of doubt it. Not sure if it's even considered as a treatment for large dogs.
