Pregnancy of Unknown location and very low/slow hcg

This is my first pregnancy, and the past three weeks have been a roller coaster to say the least.

I found out on July 12th, via a test with a very faint line. Over the next week, the lines did progressively darken but did so somewhat slowly.

On the 20th, I began to spot and haven't stopped. Since then, it has slowly progressed from a dark brown barely-there to a much brighter red. It has been pretty light with the exception of two nights where I filled about half a pad overnight. No clots or tissue of any size.

On the 23rd, I did a private HCG test to try to get some reassurance. The result was a whopping 80.

I did a second HCG test with the same company on the 27th. That result was 172.5, giving me a doubling time of just shy of 80hrs, or 52% per 48hrs.

For the past week, I've been visiting my partner's family in a different country. Rather than wait until I get back, I decided to make an appointment with a local ob/gyn to see if I could get an idea of what's going on. Well, that didn't go as I had hoped and I left the appointment far more lost than anything else.

My first appointment was on the 30th. The tech who did the ultrasound was nice, but spoke limited English. She told me that despite the positive urine test, she could not find any definitive pregnancy. She pointed to a small dark spot in my uterus and said that she doubted that was the pregnancy. I didn't catch much else about the actual scan, but my lining measured about 11mm and there was mention of free fluid. It was explained that there are three possibilities- an early miscarriage, miscalculated dates, or ectopic. I was then offered a follow-up appointment with the practice's lead doctor a few days later.

The second appointment on August 3rd was even more confusing. The doctor quickly did a tv and abdominal ultrasound, said it didn't look hopeful, then gave me a prescription for progesterone to try to stop the bleeding. The appointment was a flurry and over in about 10 minutes. I still don't think there was any definitive evidence of pregnancy seen, but the scans were so fast and nothing was explained to me. Once again I caught a mention of fluid as well as a rather dismissive comment about my age and being able to try again quickly.

While I don't know my exact dates, at the absolute minimum I should be a little over six weeks right now. Probably closer to seven. I've been reading up on ultrasounds in early pregnancy and it sounds like there really should be something visible by now, if not an embryo with a heartbeat.

I'll be home soon and the first thing I will do is try to get an appointment with the Early Pregnancy Unit. I am far from an expert, but none of this seems to look very good. At this point I am mostly hoping that it is 'only' a loss and not ectopic, unless something magically appears on my next scan.

What's the deal with this ruby?

Is it a poor/rudimentary cut to begin with, or just very beat up?

I haven't seen anything (aside from actual roughs) with such a textured surface before. It's full of pits and grooves but looks very glassy overall. The edges of the facets are quite rounded.

The stone was found in a bag of random gemstones that come from various sources, so the history is unknown. No obvious inclusions seen with a loupe but it's very difficult to discern due to the surface texture. Approx 0.7 carats. Very much a ruby, not glass.
