My dad messaged me about my engagement…
Backstory: I was kicked out of my parents house one month after graduating college in 2023. I was dating a veteran who was 3 years older than me and left the marines in 2020. We began dating in 2021 and my father was not fond of him and told me how he would eventually “beat me”. My mother, on the other hand, had a weird fascinating with my then boyfriend until we got into our first fight in 2 years. After being kicked out, I ended up moving in with said boyfriend and finding a job while he took care of bills. I was told I wasn’t their daughter. Eventually, I moved on and became happy and healthy.
This happened on almost two weeks ago. I got engaged to my then boyfriend of now almost 6 years on August 13th and after telling my closest friends and family, I posted to social media to announce to everyone one.
Note: I unfollowed both of them and my little brother on all forms of social media.
I posted to Instagram and Facebook (this was my first Facebook post) and decided to check my Facebook messages a month after we announced and I came across the below message.
I’m torn between messaging back or ignoring. My aunt (his sister) says I can say “I’m shocked to hear from you but I need time” but I just don’t want to be hurt by them again. My mother has repeatedly spread lies about me to my family but my father somehow still speaks of me highly. Please help!

EDIT: I do and have paid for my own cellphone plan. They told me in 2023 that they weren’t anymore (I was 21 at the time and never allowed to have a job because they “would take care of me”)
