NASA Space Apps Challenge Megathread

Please use this megathread for any discussions about the NASA Space Apps Challenge. There have been a number of posts looking for team members and the mods felt that if we consolidated all requests to a single post it will have more visibility. We will leave the ones already posted open, but anything new needs to use this post.

For visibility, here are the existing posts that we're aware of. If we missed yours, please comment here and we'll add it to the list.

Account requirements for multiple bots

I have several bots that I use to assist in modding my subreddits using the "old" data api via PRAW/Python. When I originally built them, I set them up to use a single account created for that purpose.

While I'd eventually like to migrate them to Devvit, in the meantime I want to know if based on the recent communications I'd need to move each of these to it's own user/app account?

Optimum email about upgraded modem

I got an email today with the following:

> We're gifting you a gateway modem! We're upgrading our network and gifting you an updated modem — at no extra cost.

I currently have an Arris TM 1602 which I have connected to a mesh network. I am not being charged for that modem. I don't want/need an integrated wifi access point. I've got 300Mbps service, which is sufficient for my needs. I have a few questions:

  1. What is the "upgraded" modem, and what does it do that my current modem doesn't?

  2. If the new modem has an AP, can it be put into bridge mode so that I can use my own network equipment?

  3. Despite the "at no extra cost" statement, has anyone who has switched to this new device found that they got a monthly charge? (Or any kind of fee).

  4. Anything else I should know? (e.g., any hidden catches, like being required to switch to Optimum Mobile, etc.)

I recently spoke to Optimum to see if I could reduce my bill. I was told that if I switch to fiber I'll get a 5-year lock on the price and it would reduce the overall bill. From what I've read in posts here, it seems like if I don't run into installation issues, Internet will be fine. I want to add that my current 300M/20M speeds are fine, I don't need the faster speed.

My concern is that many of the posts that I've read reported issues with TV service after the switch. I've seen "can't pause live TV" and other issues, though I haven't found anything relatively recent. If it matters, we currently have a couple of Samsung boxes with cloud dvr (or whatever it's called) and one premium service. We use a Roku to stream a bunch of other things.

Does anyone have any recent experience with TV after switching to fiber that they can share?

Thanks.

Link to the live AMA

If you could meet the NASA team that worked on Artemis II, what would you like to ask?

Join our experts on Thursday, April 23, for a Reddit AMA ("Ask Me Anything") about the Moon mission. The AMA post will be available starting in r/NASA at around 10AM (see here for your local time)

Proof: https://x.com/NASA/status/2047011577879044449

PLEASE NOTE: Do not post questions for the NASA team as regular top-level posts to r/nasa as they will not be included in the AMA. The mods have removed a number of those since it was pretty clear that those are for the AMA. Please wait until you see the post from u/nasa and you can post your questions there.
