Life is funny

I am a 30year old female who has graves for almost a year. I had two miscarriages last summer and started to then get the onset of symptoms diagnosed in September.

Started on PTU and my endo said it was best that I have my thyroidectomy before having kids. Safer for baby and mother. That devastated me. But I was prepared for the two years it would take to get the surgery and recover.

I got a call from the surgeons office last week to be scheduled for later in the summer. Then….. went to the ED with shortness of breath and ongoing chest pain. Found out I’m PREGNANT!! I got dropped down to 50mg of PTU from 150 and immediately discontinued my Atenlol.

So many emotions attached, excited , scared. I know that it will be more difficult road having active graves and being pregnant. Current 6 weeks pregnant and waiting to see the OB. Said it would be soon as I am considered a high risk pregnancy.

Friends who were pregnant with graves and on meds, I would love to hear your experiences and what I am in for. Thanks!!

Am I doing something wrong?

I am a 29 F diagnosed with graves Sept 2025 currently waiting for a thyroidectomy. From Nov 2025-March 2026, I was on PTU and felt great. Started at 300mg a day and went down to 100. Then in April (nothing really changed in my life ) I regressed, started having the heart palpitations again (despite still being on a low dose beta blocker) and just felt exhausted. Got my blood work and my T3 were elevated so my endo increased my dose to 150 a day. Felt good right away no symptoms other than a toll felt I was really tired BUT I was back to exercising 4-5 times a week so some of that I thought was that.

Then this week I have had some bouts of heart palpitations but today I got really bad shakes and tremors in my hands which I haven’t had for months.

Am I doing something to bring about these attacks? I’ll have to call my endo and go for bloodwork again but just wondering if there is anything I am doing that is changing what was a very smooth period to now recurrent attacks.

Help me understand…

Someone explain to me why I can’t get a RAI and need a TT

I am a 30 year old female diagnosed with graves in September 2025 finally started on meds and saw endo in November 2025. Started at 150mg twice a day and then by February was down to 50 mg twice a day. My bloodwork from Jan - Feb was normal ranges.

I want kids but this has put a wrench in it. My endo said I needed a TT and not the RAI because I have a nodule and that would affect it? I looked back at my 24hour rai test and it was reported to have a cold nodule. I had it FNA and there was no concern.

I met with an ENT a few months ago and have been waiting for the OR date but it could take up to a year.

I had a flare a month ago where my T3 started to rise out of normal range so I went up from 100mg a day to 150. My bloodwork last week showed normal.

I know the nodule may affect uptake but couldn’t it make a large difference to where I could get some years without symptoms? The TT is very permanent but also the wait is so long. I really want to start trying for kids but the unknown date of the TT is driving me insane.

So short story I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease in September. I am a 30 year old female. Started PTU at 150mg x daily and 25mg of Atenlol. From November until March I slowly started to progress down with my endo to 50mg twice a day. I never had an issues going down. I felt incredible the whole time back to myself.

My endo is pushing for a thyroidectomy because of the nodules, my age and timeline for conception. I had a hard time with this since I was doing so well on the meds.

However, 2 weeks ago I have started to feel like I’m regressing. I’m exhausted all the time. Like falling asleep everywhere. I have noticed more hair loss, I’ve lost my menstrual cycle ( and no I’m not pregnant I’ve checked), weight wise I have gained a bit, I have only noticed the hot flashes once or twice today. And I have noticed times where I’m laying on the couch and I can feel my heart going. It’s not like it was before where it was beating out my chest but I can notice and hear it.

Am I really regressing after doing so well?? I’m quite disappointed and discouraged that maybe the thyroidectomy is the best option if I do want to conceive soon.
