Some of Apps not launching after the steam OS 3.8 update? Here's a potential fix.
Many of you including me, ran into an issue after the latest release of steam OS 3.8.xx. Where you won't be able to launch some of the apps such as jdownloader and portproton. After I have done some reading a simple toggling in the settings made the apps work back as normal as they used to be.
Reason for this issue : SteamOS 3.8 overhauled the underlying Linux foundation, switching display server configurations and removing default X11 support, which frequently breaks external wine/proton wrappers. " Quoted from Google AI search result"
Potional solution :go to desktop mode - application launcher - system settings - application permissions -select the app that is not launching and scroll down all the way to advanced permissions and uncheck the box that says "Wayland windowing system" then press apply and restart if the app didn't launch.
So far I only had issues with two apps and did the same procedures for both of them and they started to work. Hope it works for you guys as well.
