I completed a 5000km trip on a CL-C 450, here's some thoughts. Feel free to ask questions.
Just like the title says I just completed a 5000km road trip around Canada and the US. Which includes time spent riding during a heat wave, as well as riding through at least two severe thunderstorms.
My first thoughts are on how capable this little machine was. I had no mechanical issues at all and while riding at 75mph in 40 degree heat it never complained and just kept plugging along. It was also my first trip with a belt drive, and I now don't want to do another on a bike with a chain drive.
While I did enjoy the bike itself on the trip, and had 0 issues mechanically with it. There are some areas for improvement.
The OEM saddlebags are not very large (12 litres per side) they also aren't watertight if you experience heavy rain. The size of the saddlebags was compensated for by using a small duffel bag, which fit perfectly on the passenger seat. I managed to pack 1 week of clothes into both saddlebags, and my camping supplies in the duffel. I also wore a backpack to keep my laptop and some other tech related things close to my body.
The fuel range was pretty good. I saw a high of 300km but when I was in a area where traffic moved at 80mph it would fall off drastically. To the point I needed to fuel up in roughly an hour at those speeds.
The seat was probably the worst part. After roughly an hour and a half of riding it got painful, which was terrible over a 12 hour day. I was using a butt buffer seat pad at the start of the trip. But the shape of the seat is the problem. It would cause pain in my tail bone no matter how I sat. Taking the butt buffer off made it so my tailbone wouldn't hurt but it wasn't much more comfortable as everything else would start to hurt. I do not think it has too much to do with the actual cushioning, but more to do with the shape.
Other than those few things it was a very good trip, and I look forward to doing it again.
