Kiwi re-discovers that she can have thoughts every day

She may not be Orange but she sure doesn’t haven’t any braincells. Constantly looks surprised that we can perceive her

Kiwi is now a big sister!

Kiwi is a classic model, has the hardware to think but the software was never fully installed. She’s a year and half and spends her days chasing her own tail and having The Zooms, but we figured a friend would keep up with her and provide more entertainment.

So this is Mango. He looks like a SIC but the paint job’s a little off (does he belong in a orange cat subreddit?) He’s got hot-rod white on his belly and paws. He’s 6mo, loved being Held Like Baby, and is in possession of the rare Orange Braincell.

We got him Monday evening and by Thursday morning, Kiwi was insisting on playing with him through the screen door. She likes to share food with him now

When does a SIC start to have thoughts?

First time ever having a cat. This is Kiwi, provided via the Cat Distribution System. She’s almost a year and a half old (guesstimate). We got her back in September and it’s been a steep learning curve.

She likes to stare at me like she’s shocked I exist. Usually from atop the curtains or her cat tree. Scream at me to perceive her being tall (I can’t look at her on the floor or she goes mmrrpphhh and sprints away). Usually she gets stuck every couple days between the shower curtains and cries for me to rescue her (and then must run away, can’t be perceived)

It’s like every night she factory resets back to “I know nothing” and tries to body slam the window to try and climb the curtains.

I’ve heard some cats are smarter than others, and I’ve seen so many adorable ones on this sub that seem to have intelligence behind their eyes.

Was Kiwi assembled without that software install? Or are SICs more on the dingus side of cat intelligence?

This is the setting’s city on the cover of my book club’s monthly read. I think it’s AI, but apparently the authors are against AI

Also the book is… not good. Its “This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me” by Ilona Andrews (husband and wife author team) and it’s got a lot of unnecessary info-dumping and lengthy descriptions of characters that remain nameless or you won’t see again.
