Low score in Listening, 3.5/6.0

I have been practicing with T*glider for over a month. My overall scores were consistently in the 4.5 - 5.0 range. (Did all mock tests in T*glider)

My typical breakdown was:

Reading: 5.0 - 5.5

Writing: 4.0

Speaking: 4.0

Listening: 5.5 - 6.0

Today I took my official test at a test center. The unofficial scores shown at the end were:

Reading: 5.0

Listening: 3.5

I’m concerned about the Listening score because it has always been my strongest section. For reference, I also took a free mock tests on TST Prep recently and scored 5.5 & 6.0 in Listening.

Could you please advise what I can do to improve my Listening section?

Also, I haven’t received my official scores yet. Is there any chance the Listening score could change when the official results are released?

Got this email from an LSU Biochem professor, how safe am I?

I'm applying to the LSU Biochemistry Ph.D. program at the end of this month for the Fall 2027 intake.

I reached out to a PI over the summer and got this encouraging reply (attached). However, I know the Biochem cohort is tiny, usually only 5-6 spots a year.

For anyone in LSU grad school or Biological Sciences: How much power does a professor's support actually have during the committee review? Since the spots are so limited, could I still get rejected at the admission stage despite her backing?

PhD in Biological Sciences (Fall 2027)

Can anyone guide me on research faculties? I am interested in Dr. Heidi Klem's research group. I am an international applicant (Sri Lanka), who has a below average B.Sc c.gpa of 3.08/4.0. My major was Microbiology, completed with a merit international scholarship in Pakistan.

I have a decent research profile with a few peer-reviewed publications (first author) and awards. I want to evaluate my position before applying. CV is mentioned below. Does my C.gpa hurt my chances?
