EV charging/ parking on campus

I’m a new LSU grad student starting in the fall of ‘26. I’m reading that there are some ev chargers on campus and I’m hoping to reach some of the users of them here. Are they in high demand? Will I be able to count on getting my vehicle charged on campus?

the loudest Death Valley moment you've experienced, live or on tv

Everyone talks about the noise there but there's usually one specific night that actually lives up to the reputation more than the rest. Mine happened during a game that had no business being that intense. What's yours.

Laptop Suggestions

Hey Yall!! I’m an incoming freshman, I’ve also never owned a laptop in my entire life and was wondering what is like THE recommendation. I’m going to major in Chemistry and I know that for some majors you need specific things in your laptop(like engineering). I just don’t wanna buy a laptop and end up buying the wrong one 😿.

(not a chemical engineer major)

LSU for transfer students

Im a student at a community college and I have to transfer next fall. I moved to kenner 2 years ago and i dont know much about the city or LSU so i have some questions.

  1. How are the teachers and the environment?
  2. I am an introvert so is it easy to make friends, are people friendly?
  3. What’s the housing situation?

I’m an incoming schedule and deciding my classes.

Is this too much for my first semester? As a creative writing major in the Odgen Honors college, what class should I drop and save for another semester?

Just moved to NOLA. Need help adjusting to NOLA life and making friends.

Hey all, I (21F) moved to NOLA because my partner has a good job here and I'm still in school. I am about to start grad school soon.

I would be interested in being friends and having connections at LSU. I just graduated, but in my undergrad I was a social butterfly, went to every football game, and party girl. The school I’m going for grad school is nothing like LSU. My first choice was LSU, but it was bit far to me as far as daily commute. I was upset because I know the social life at LSU can be amazing.

l've always been from small towns so NOLA is crazy to me so it's been hard adjusting; weather, people, traffic, etc. I have no family here, I mostly stay at home. (Trying to get a job at the school I'll be attending).

I know that when I start grad school, I might make friends but also, I might not. I fully acknowledge that living on campus versus just going to class then going back home is a much different life. It's way easier to make friends in undergrad living on campus.

I want friends to have long term friendships with and to explore the city and getting to know the culture better.

Thank you for reading and taking the time to comment.

Football Tickets / Incoming Freshman

My daughter will be a freshman this Fall. She’s been checking her email daily and has not seen anything regarding Student football tickets. I see a few other posts that say they went on sale today and sold out. Do freshman not get the chance to buy tickets? How can she buy tickets to individual games ? I (her dad) joined the TAF and never saw any emails about tickets either.

Just curious if someone could shed some light on Sorry to be repetitive.

Can LSU students take classes through LSU Online?

Long story short my kid had a hold on his record because he had to change his major. He finally had it removed but now all the classes he needs are full. Is he able to take classes through LSU online? Thanks.

what's gameday in Baton Rouge actually like for someone who's never been

i keep hearing Death Valley at night is one of the best atmospheres in all of sports and i want the real breakdown from people who've lived it. the tailgating, the noise, the whole build up to kickoff. for someone planning their first trip down, what do they absolutely need to do to get the full experience.

I built a debate app for civility. Users wanted to be toxic.

So I’m obsessed with debate, I’ll be honest, and I’ve noticed, as I’m sure we all have, that discourse in recent years has gotten really toxic.

It’s either a dogpile, throwing insults, being condescending, I don’t need to rehash what I imagine we all already know.

I built an app where people could swipe on topics, get matched with someone who disagrees, and get a score on their civility. The idea was that if you’re always an asshole, your shitty civility score would follow you and no one would want to talk to you.

I added a feature in passing called toxic mode that did not judge your civility. Spew your venom, no holds barred.

That was the idea.

Every time I got an install on the app, every single user immediately jumped into toxic mode. Out of 100+ downloads, not a single person wanted to have a civil discussion. They wanted the messy version. The heated version. The version that felt more like a chaotic internet argument than a polite debate club.

So I stopped fighting it and built a lightweight browser version where you can just pick a topic and jump in:

https://thinklavender.com/ragebait

The goal is still to get people talking to people they disagree with. Maybe the first step is not making everyone perfectly civil. Maybe it is just getting them in the same room.

And if that room has to be a little toxic to get people through the door, so be it.

Would love feedback on the idea and whether this feels like something people would actually try.
