Irritated with LA28
I don’t post on here often, but I felt the need to in this situation. My family has an average income. I am a school teacher and my wife works in a senior living healthcare facility. Our son is a gifted track athlete and in the 11th grade, we thought it would be a great opportunity for him to experience the 2028 Olympics after he graduates. My wife and I put in for all the lottery opportunities and I didn’t get selected for any. My wife got selected for the final ticket drop. It is currently her timeframe, as I type this message, for purchasing the tickets. Unfortunately, we realized that the Olympics being held in America are not for the average American to attend. We were more than happy to pay for our travel to get from the East Coast to the West Coast, pay for our stay (whether it was a hotel, Airbnb or Vrbo), and a rental car to get to and from the events. The lowest cost tickets for the track and field events, which is ironically not all the events at this price, was over $1200 per person. For a family of four that’s nearly $5000 to see a small number of events. I don’t even understand why we filled out the information for the lottery?!?! We won the lottery and our ticket prices are an amount more than the average Americans’ entire family vacation. We were planning on treating the Olympics as our family vacation, but like I said, the event tickets cost more than an entire vacation.This is why I felt compelled to make this post and vent my frustration for all the people that do so much to help this country, but are often unable to reap the benefits. I’m just extremely disappointed that something my family really enjoyed watching over the years, and that we thought we had an opportunity to witness live, is out of our reach.
