Question for A1s of Broadway/ Yellow Card Tours

What skills do you look for or wish your A2s had on tour?

Not just standard wireless coordination skills, but other technical skills.

I'm already an A2 for a regional 1500 cap theater and feel good about my abilities, but I want to spend my summer updating my skills so I'm worth more.

Industry Periodicals

Do we have periodicals in our industry nowadays?

I remember reading Sound On Sound as a kid, but it was mostly studio oriented.

Probably once a year I see a tour come to my theater using some technology I didn't know was even in development.

Is there anything that is live sound/ theater oriented, especially for someone who doesn't have time for trade shows?

DM7 Subgroups/Mixing Into Busses

I was messing around with my DM7 today when it dawned on me that it doesn't really have subgroups. Sure, you have Mute Groups, DCAs, and Sub In/Out [if you link two consoles], but you can't mix into groups.

I was hoping to mix groups into multi-band and then a quick vca style compressor, but subgroups don't exist for that.

My work around was sending the inputs I wanted to a bus at unity, in post-fader and removing the inputs from the stereo bus, then returning the mix bus to an input channel and processing there.

Was this way more work than should have been necessary or was this just what's needed for a DM7?
