What can I do to help support my friend.

On May 25 the day before I had to put one of the cats down my friend 36F called me saying she was at the UofA and going to have surgery. It went horrific wrong and she had two separate bleeds. She was in the icu in a coma for a month. She’s in one of the recovery wards with no language expression but she can completely comprehend. Her right side has little to no mobility and I can tell she’s angry at this point. I shave her legs and cut her hair. Give soft massages and say the Lord’s Prayer for her to follow along even though I’m atheist. I let her call her family up north when I visit but I still feel like I’m failing her. What more can I do to give her support and make her comfortable? Thank you.

Some of the bones I have been working on in Treaty 6, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Caribou is from the Nunavut territory and elk is from BC.

I have started carving so getting to work with caribou and elk is a pleasure. The antlers will be game pieces, earrings and snow goggles. The caribou jaw will be made into a tiny Inuit qamutiik sled and the teeth will become earrings. Im going to see what some of the clients I work would like to do with the skull in our next art session.

I saw this older map of Edmonton downtown at thrift yesterday.

Crazy how much the city core has changed. Not even a whisper of the convention centre and of course the old CN Rail buildings where Rogers and the old rail line running down Fort Road.

Today I Dragonbornsqrl a 5’5 Inuk woman humbled a 6 foot tall RCPM Officer in a hand stick pull 😏

I was presenting Inuit games to a grade six class and asked the local officer who is always invited to the schools events if he would play against me to show the students how to play. As we played hand stick pull I could feel his body start to tremble and said stop and we showed the class how red our hands were from playing. We played some other games and then let the kids started going through the stations.

After he came over and said he was 90% sure he was about the loose against me in front of the class and said he could feel his sides cramping up and was about loose his hand grip. We had a good laugh and he said he’s glad he didn’t loose in front of the students and was impressed with how much strength the games took to play. I will admit after three full days running multiple sessions my body is stiff and sore but in a very good way.

What are some of your favourite Indigenoud games for strength?
