sump pump smells

Hi, I bought a new house (74 years old) in the country. I've had a stroke, 2years ago, and have lost the use of my right arm and hand. Anyway.... The smell.

The sump pump is oldddd. I had a plumber come install a new.... Level detecter (name of I don't know).

There is a whole in the lid about the size of a quarter. The marine rated wood is bolted over the whole with ample wet safe putty. That was my father in law attempt at fixing it.

No go, bummer.

I bought thick rubber to use as a seal. I was going to remove the top off the sump pump place the seal close it and seal it with silicone?

Detached the pipe in red and put silicone over the blue (wires)

What do I have to watch out for?

Or, give me a new plan?
