Planning a last-minute SoCal proposal after Hawaii hurricane cancellation

Hello everyone,

I had a whole proposal planned for my partner in Hawaii, but unfortunately, due to Hurricane Lala, our trip was canceled. We’re rebooking for a later date, but I’ve had this ring for over a year now and I really don't want to wait any longer I’m determined to pop the question this week, ideally this Friday.

I live in Southern California and am scrambling to pull together a solid Plan B. Right now, starting from square one feels almost impossible. I know a lot of what I’m feeling is just emotional drain and disappointment from having to cancel a trip I’ve been looking forward to for months, but I really want to make this moment special regardless.

Does anyone have ideas, locations, or suggestions they could throw my way? Whether it's a scenic coastal spot, a cozy getaway vibe, or something unique in the SoCal area, any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for helping a stressed out, partner out!

I'm looking for some advice from people who have done stargazing on the Big Island.

I'm planning to propose to my partner during our trip. I already have an amazing dinner reservation and our hotel booked for that evening, and I was hoping to make the proposal happen during an incredible night of stargazing.

Here's where I'm torn. There's a guided stargazing tour that's about $600 for the two of us and lasts around three hours. I'm sure it would be great, but I'm wondering if it's really worth the price or if I'd be better off planning something on my own.

For those of you who have been there, what would you do? Is the guided experience that much better, or are there places where I could drive, bring a blanket, maybe a small dessert or bottle of sparkling cider, and still have an unforgettable experience under the stars?

If you were in my shoes and wanted to make this a once-in-a-lifetime evening, would you spend the money on the tour, or would you DIY it?

I'd really appreciate any recommendations, especially if you've done either option yourself. Thanks so much!

Update: Its a group tour not on a mountain i believe its just a dark peek with a photo.

Smart thermostats help

Hello! I'm renting a two-story unit, and I asked my landlord if I could replace the older thermostat with a smart thermostat that I can control from my phone or iPad. He gave me the go-ahead.

The problem is that with the thermostat downstairs and my bedroom upstairs, I'm constantly going up and down the stairs just to adjust the temperature. I have a bad hip, so it's becoming more of a hassle than it should be.

I have absolutely zero knowledge or experience with smart thermostats, so I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. What would you recommend? Is there a particular brand or model that's easy to install and works well?

Thanks in advance!

Mattress firm? Are they ok?

I went to Mattress Firm today because I've been dealing with horrible pain in my left shoulder, back, and hip. I'm a side sleeper, and I think my mattress is a big part of the problem. I still have the cheapest mattress I bought on Amazon when I first moved into my apartment because money was tight. Now I'm waking up in the middle of the night in so much pain.
The salesperson had me try the Tempur-Adapt, and honestly it felt like sleeping on a cloud. They also told me I would need to buy the Tempur bed frame for the warranty, and the total quote came out to almost $8,000.
I've never bought a mattress before, let alone one that expensive. Is that normal? Has anyone found a mattress that's similar to the Tempur-Adapt but costs less? I'm a college student, so money is definitely a factor, but I also know I need to invest in my sleep and hopefully help with my back, shoulder, and hip pain.
I'd really appreciate any recommendations or advice. Thank you!

Info about this boat house

Hello everyone. I often go down to the Balboa Peninsula and I always see this boat house. Does anyone have any info on it. I’m just simply curious it’s always there.
