How do you find a good, reliable, honest, cost effective contractor in CT?

HELP!! We have been thru a lifetime of nightmares in the past 4 years. What started with a water leak ( or 3) in our home had turned into the movie Money Pit.

I can complain about all the money, damage, tears, swears and time wasted on ..... Wait for it .... 4 different contractors.

But, when your told by the Town Inspector to be grateful you've only pulled 4 permits, when there are homes with over 20 pulled-- Im like ... Umm, okay and WTF??!

So, after working much overtime to try and refill our repair fund, I am again seeking a contractor to finish the cluster in our basement and turn it into the in-law we have tried to complete for 4 years. ** We had a beautiful finished bar/ party room before this all started!

And i need someone to fix the 12x 20 6 inch concrete patio that was torn out ' by mistake'.. yup, not kidding-- and use the 12x24 deck wood that has been sitting in a pile against my house for 3 years. Yes, i am that house that has a slider for to nowhere currently, first step is a B$$_.

I wish there was a hgtv series in CT... I'd apply and probably get chosen for shock value alone!

But, it is time to put down the whine and cheese, and get this stuff done. So, please tell me how to find the right person. ( I've used family referrals, friend referrals, adjuster recommendations and vendor referrals ( plumber has a electrician friend, etc.)

I simply want to get an estimate, detailed, itemized and realistic contract, and a timeline that is actually followed. And NO, I will not pay for anything until the contract is signed. * Been there, done that...ugh !!!

Thank you, in advance for your advice and ideas.

Oyyy, this food thing is getting old!

Hello, so let me start by saying i thought we had gotten past this... GiGi was gaining weight and the redness seemed to be gone! She was finally eating the RC junior consistently.

Then she started with lose stools 2 weeks ago. Called the vet, do a bland diet, called again- still pooping 12x a day.

Go to see the vet ( she looks healthy, up 12 lbs and sorry, our computers are down today) started on pre/probiotic and dewormer/parasite med and now it's ' she's probably allergic to chicken',try RC / PPP lamb or salmon. My husband grabs PPP lamb and oatmeal puppy skin/digestive- (as we tried Salmon before and she refused to eat it. ) we find treats that have no chicken, get rid of every clucking chicken treat, flavored bone, etc ..

Get home, start the Lamb and she Freakin Loves it ... Never saw her so excited to eat... But now lose stools to the point of mucus. Eyes dripping, crotch dripping - I'm annoyed and frustrated as poor baby is sick and having accidents and WTF?!

Make another vet. Appt. ( Today) Now she has active dripping from her eyes and crotch- can't deny it- right in front of them . And hives on her belly. In a week - she's only gained 1 lb. " It's the Lamb" ... Sigh.. okay- i just want her to feel better, not chew her paws off and cry when we touch her very red ears!

We meet a covering vet. Who now says- PPP HA Salmon... Goes into the explanations of protein chains, etc. wipes for her eyes, ears and crotch .. and see you in 10 days. * As i said No to the 3 week booster that was due. - solve the problem before we add in more. *

Now that I'm done ranting.

Has anyone had good luck with this PPP HA Salmon with their Dane? Does it meet the criteria for Lg brd puppies? I'm not second guessing the Vet. Just concerned that they are Sure it's a food allergy... Meanwhile they swab her for a genetic test?

Gigi gained some weight!!

Hi All, my mom freaked out a few weeks ago as I looked malnourished! She's never owned a Dane, so I'm teaching her that I grow Up not Out!! The vet said I'm right on Target at 32 lbs at my 12 week check up! I'll be 4 months next week!

Thanks for all your help and advice. She's been giving me RC junior and PPP Salmon, it makes my coat shine and my blue eyes sparkle! I'm still a picky princess, but that's okay.

Afraid of the Rain, Meet Duck Dog.

So our girl has decided that she is AFRAID of the rain. Literally shakes. She will go in water, play in her pool, but consistent rain, sigh... It's been a struggle.

We have tried umbrellas, the leash, no leash, and finally went and ordered a rain coat... Meet Duck Dog. ( Yes, it's too big- but she's growing so fast, it will fit well very soon,I hope)

Any ideas? We have a big 12x20 gazebo that once I get her to, she'll chill on the couch and relax. But, the walk back inside or going potty is now a real struggle.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong, feeling like we are going backwards! We even gave her treats while outside in her rain coat, trying to make it positive.

She's had multiple accidents since the rain started. I don't want to traumatize her, but we were at 99% potty trained to 3 accidents just this morning.

As you can see the struggle knocked them Both out....

Any ideas are appreciated. We are doing positive reward training. She is super treat, praise motivated.

Puppy is growing, but looks like I'm starving her and spits out her dog food! Help!

Hi. Let me preface this post by saying we've had 2 other giant breeds. A Saint and an Eng.Mastiff. We found our girl-GiGi after grieving the loss of Mastiff. Our Saint passed last year. So,I Thought I remembered what the puppy stage /fear of making mistakes was like.... Smh!

***The pictures are from when she came home with us at 8 weeks, thru sleeping at my feet on her green flower bed, right now***

She has stopped eating her dog food. When we brought her home from the breeder we had an incredibly thorough list of instructions and advice from her.* She's been raising Danes for 30+ years and we got to meet the whole gang,mom/dad/aunt's/uncle's, etc. ( she has 9 full time that are her pets) So,we felt really good about adopting our girl.

We are feeding her exactly what we were told and let me just say- she started Spitting it out. She is getting purina pro plan giant breed puppy and royal canin junior ( giant breed) mixed. We have mixed it with water to make it soft ( and get water into her) left dry kibble out all the time, and she has a water bowl that she had just started to use. I use a separate bowl for her yogurt/pumpkin and fruit treats ( blue berries, banana) .* All instructions from breeder.

She is growing ( 16.lbs at 8 weeks, 18lbs at 9,. But now at almost 11 weeks she looks like I'm starving her although she's heavier to lift, but not sure of her exact weight- we see the vet next week. )

She's not eating the dry kibble / picks thru the wet kibble and I finally resorted to rice with boiled chicken or beef. That she Will eat.

Any advice? I know both our other dogs had purina one giant breed- their puppy to adult lives- weight was never an issue and we lost both due to age related issues. I know both got sick if I tried to change their food. ( One vet had recommended a " better brand" at one point and my Saint spent 3 days with the runs and miserable until I changed back. )

I do realize she is a Dane, not Mastiff or a Saint and she's built different...I just want to do the best for her.

She has had 3 bowls of rice with boiled beef and yogurt today and about 8 pieces of Royal Canin that were mixed in, Blueberries and I think some of my husband's meatballs and egg noodles found their way into her bowl.

I am not starving this dog- I promise you. She's friendly, working on training and potty breaks, loves people and other dogs, all around happy puppy-just looks super-skinny to me?
