SpitfireCGI's latest 4K animation: A Hawker Hurricane ditching at night in rough Force 6 seas, spotted by a chance-encounter Supermarine Walrus of ASR

Hi everyone,

We wanted to share our latest cinematic WWII aviation animation from the studio. This project follows a high-tension narrative: a Hawker Hurricane is forced to ditch directly into brutal Force 5 seas at night, with the pilot entirely unaware that he has any hope. By absolute chance, a passing Supermarine Walrus spots the Hurricane in trouble and follows it down into the dark to stage a miracle air-sea rescue.

Everything you see was built in CGI, lit, and animated in-house and rendered out in full 4K with authentic sound design. We put a massive amount of focus into capturing the physics of the water impact in rough conditions, the main characters' expressions, the terrifying scale of the ocean at night, and the strict technical accuracy of both aircraft.

We would love to know what the community thinks of the crash sequence, our nighttime lighting, and the historical narrative!

How the RAF Rescued Downed Pilots at Night: WWII Air-Sea Rescue (4K CGI)

I’ve spent the last few weeks working on this CGI recreation of a Winter 1940 night rescue. I wanted to capture the specific challenge of an RAF Hawker Hurricane ditching in the Solent and the critical role of the Supermarine Walrus.

I pushed for technical accuracy on this one, especially the interior "red glow" cockpit lighting and the physics of the Walrus landing in choppy night-time waters. Would love to get some feedback from the fellow aviation buffs here on the atmosphere and scale of the models.
