Why does cycling seem like such an expensive hobby?
Almost every YouTube video or online store keeps promoting premium foreign brands, making it feel like those are the only worthwhile options. Even when you ask an experienced cyclist for a recommendation, the first answer is often something like a Scott or another premium brand, as if those are the only bikes worth considering. It feels like budget friendly options rarely even enter the conversation. The reality is that spending more money is often just the icing on the cake. The most important thing is building the habit of riding consistently, and you don’t need an expensive bike to do that. I feel like many beginners fall into the social media trap. They end up spending a lot on their first bike because every influencer seems to recommend premium brands, without first figuring out whether they’ll even enjoy cycling enough to stay consistent. Why don’t more creators showcase budget friendly bikes and components that offer excellent value for money? If a brand doesn’t have a strong social media presence like Battalion, for example it often goes unnoticed, even if it offers solid products. Does anyone else feel that the cycling community doesn’t give enough attention to affordable brands? What are some underrated, value for money bikes or brands that deserve more recognition?
