Got selected at Société Générale as an SDE Intern + FTE through campus placements — need some insights about work culture, location and compensation

Hey everyone!

I recently got selected at Société Générale (SocGen) through campus placements at my college, College of Engineering Guindy, Anna University, Chennai.

The offer is for an SDE Internship + Full-Time Employment (FTE) role. The offer letter mentions the following:

  • Fixed CTC: ₹12.21 LPA (excluding the variable component)
  • Internship stipend: ₹32,500 per month
  • Variable pay: Additional, based on individual, group and company performance

I'm happy about getting this opportunity, but honestly, I don't have much clarity about what to expect next. We haven't received much detailed information from the college placement team regarding the work location, team allocation or what the transition from internship to full-time employment will look like.

I'd really appreciate insights from people currently working at SocGen or those who have worked there previously.

A few things I'd like to understand:

  1. Work location: Is the SDE role generally based in Chennai, Bengaluru, or another location? When are freshers usually informed about their final location and team?
  2. Work culture: How is the engineering culture at SocGen? Is it a good place for freshers to learn, take ownership and grow technically?
  3. Technology stack: What technologies do SDE interns typically work with? Is the work primarily backend development, full-stack development, banking applications, or something else?
  4. Work-life balance: How are the working hours, workload and general work-life balance for freshers?
  5. Compensation: For a fixed CTC of ₹12.21 LPA, what would the approximate monthly in-hand salary be after deductions? How is the variable component typically structured?
  6. Internship-to-FTE conversion: What are the expectations during the internship, and what factors determine successful conversion to a full-time role?
  7. Career growth: Is SocGen a good place to build a strong software engineering foundation for the long term? How are the learning opportunities, mentorship and internal mobility?

I'd especially love to hear from people working in the Chennai or Bengaluru offices, if possible.

I'm not looking to complain about the offer. I'm grateful for the opportunity; I just want to understand what I'm stepping into and prepare myself accordingly.

Any genuine experiences, advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
