So I finished reading OG Miguel's finale on Nick Spencer's TASM run!

I was originally planning to buy the TPB physically but one of you told me Miguel is barely in it so it wasn't worth it. And after reading it, well, yeah, Miguel is in like 10% of the story and then he does absolutely nothing; the art was great, especially coming from the 2015 Peter David run, I wasn't a fan of the art on that one nor the 2014 one, but the art here woah, the composition was always great, especially on the first 3 issues of the arc.

The story itself is lame if you're a Spiderman 2099 fan or even if you wanted to read it bc of 2099, it barely matters to the plot, it's mostly about Peter and his sister since well, it's his book, but still, the crossover was lackluster. The only redeemable part is that finally Miguel got a happy ending, since the 2015 run left him back in 2099 but without his new family, now 2099 gets destroyed but he's got Tempest and Gabriel back, so it's not like he got it all (which makes his Spiderverse movie portrayal even less accurate, since he also lost his family here at first but didn't make a tantrum lol)

So yeah, like someone pointed out, it seems like this was only made to promote the new 2099 universe since 2099 was only an afterthought for clickbait sake while the main plot was another thing altogether.

Now I'm probably gonna buy Dark Genesis and Miguel O'Hara Spiderman 2099 since I wanna complete the set and I already got Exodus lol

Also, does anyone know if they show Spider Woman 2099's origin somewhere? Bc she kinda just shows up on Exodus, which was weird since that book gave almost all of its duration to other characters that weren't Spiderman 2099 but she was just there on one issue like she had known Miguel for a long time lol

So I finally finished all 1256 pages of Spiderman 2099 Omnibus 2!!!!!

So yeah, I finally finished this BIG boy haha! Here's standalone, with the rest of my collection and also in the corner of my bookshelf reserved for any Spiderman 2099 book haha

I do have my thoughts on the whole thing, the Captain Marvel issues were pretty fun, Miguel was still the same, unchanged. Then the Superior Spiderman issues were also surprisingly good and in-character, I was surprised bc well, it's Dan Slott writing hahaha. And then finally arrived to the Peter David 2014 and 2015 runs and well... It was really good! Not perfect, not great, just really good! It does suffer from modern comic problems like having to accommodate for stupid events like Spiderverse or Civil War 2 (ugh) which stops the storyline when it was getting interesting and gives you something incoherent if you're only following the SM2099 runs, thankfully, the Civil War 2 stuff was kept at a minimum and only used as an excuse to bring back the characters from the Secret Wars 2099 event, which I liked. I loved the Sinister Six from 2099. I also loved how they brought back the classic 2099 characters such as Strange 2099 and the finale that sets up a new Defenders 2099 storyline. And the art for all the covers was really great.

On the stuff I didn't love there's Tempest, Miguel's new girlfriend, she just never ended up clicking for me, her family storyline also was dropped pretty fast and her design is just awful, she looks like a DeviantArt OC, I also didn't like that they just dropped Liz's and Alchemax in present day storyline pretty much only bc they had to finish the 2014 run, there wasn't much development on that side and it could've been explored in so many ways that it never happened, it just got abandoned for Parker Industries which I was never too happy about. I would've liked if instead they managed to use Net Prophet or Xina ngl. The art style also never clicked with me, especially bc before that point you had actually great art on the Unlimited and Captain Marvel issues. The art in the 2014 and 2015 runs was serviceable but in some panels like when the artist had to draw people, they look like mannequins more than people, it always looks like it was traced from a 3D model ngl, it's even more glaring when you compare it to the cover's art.

In the end, even with my many criticisms, I ended up enjoying the Omnibus quite a lot and it's defo worth getting if you like Spiderman 2099, just don't expect it to surpass the original 90's run. Also, so after that finale on issue 25 of the 2015 run, then nothing else happens? The original Miguel is back in 2099 and then the other 2099 universe gets created? Or am I missing something?

I might buy Dark Genesis and Miguel O'Hara: Spideman 2099 next since that's pretty much all I have left ngl
