Hey guys. I'm new to Kaiser. I had an existing prescription for a non-formulary drug that my new PCP just agreed to prescribe again. Does anyone know if I can ask my PCP to send the prescription to a non-Kaiser pharmacy like Costco, Amazon, or Walmart (so I could use GoodRX) since they are more affordable?
I also read that a doctor can request an exception for a non-formulary drug to be covered, or I can obtain a prior authorization. It seems like this would be more overhead so just sending to a non-Kaiser pharmacy would possibly be easier?
If anyone has any experience with either of these scenarios, it would be super helpful to hear. I'm located in NorCal on the HMO plan. Thanks
