Home prices crashing doesn't help anyone

Why do people think they need housing prices to crash for them to afford a home?

They still wouldn't be able to afford the house.

If housing dropped 80% and they could suddenly afford to buy one, they still couldn't afford a new furnace or a new roof. Hell, they probably couldn't even afford to fix a screen door.

If you can't afford to come up with a down payment, how are you going to afford the ongoing costs and unexpected expenses that come with owning a house?

Being able to afford the purchase price doesn't necessarily mean you can afford to own the property.
