Wood Stove Proper Install?
I had a wood insert installed by someone, who I believed was a more experienced installer than I they actually turned out to be. It was installed in fall 24 and I only burn intermittently for supplemental heat.
- I have an air intake to the outside at the base of my firebox. It is a hole in the masonry of the chimney about as a foot wide.
- The air intake house couldn't be wrapped from the side of the insert to go under it and outside, so my installer's solution was to use non flammable ceramic insulation and leave the air insert
- The insert is in a room that is about 550sq ft with 3 sides exposed to the outside, with vaulted ceilings about 25 feet high. The room is above my garage with a "typically" sized hallway that leads to the rest of the house.
- I am adding supplemental heating to the room with the insert. Normally the room is about 63 and when I run the insert for a while I can get the room to about 70-75. This is with the box full, getting a nice secondary burn for a few hours.
- I have an Osburn Matrix Wood Insert OB02028 (rated to heat about 2700 sq ft)
- I dont believe that the installer used a block-off plate
My Question is this:
- Should the room be getting much warmer than it is and should I have someone more qualified/experienced look at it? My guess is that they'd need to remove the ceramic insulation and pull out the insert to even see anything.
Thanks all
