U2 & William Orbit
Very sad news about William Orbit last week, part of me did expect a post of sorts from the band given their relative history and success, working together.
William produced and worked on some fabulous songs over the years bringing a real signature, hypnotic, unique vibe to his work, akin to the Great Brian Eno. I have been delving into his back catalogue of work, does anyone have any of his own album recommendations? What do you make of his tracks with U2? I wish they'd done an album with him, anyone else?
Electrical Storm Orbit really enhances this song from the alt. band version, I wonder who came up with the glockenspiel opening? it harks back to Boy I will Follow days. Edge's melodic guitar lines are so amazing in this and Bono's wails take it to another place. The way the song cascades down at the end to Edge's solo is so awesome - Baby Don't Cry.
The Hands That Built America (Single Version) Again Orbit's DNA is all over this song. The string arrangement here is beautiful as the song builds to Bono's Pavarotti like wail. When I first heard the song I actually thought it was Pavarotti, anyone else? I prefer the movie Orchestral Version , its so much better - this version should have been released. Edge's guitar here sounds incredible against the Orchestra. Such an underrated gem of a song, I'll die on that hill.
