My summer 2026 internship search as a CompE graduate.

Wanted to share my experience as a recent grad. Please don’t lose hope!

My interviews were at Marvell, Qualcomm, AMD, NVIDIA, Apple, Arm, Tesla (pick 5). Mostly in physical design / microarchitecture / process technology.

Got an offer early and declined the others before first round.

3.7 ish GPA from a California public school. Had 1 very weak internship beforehand (small defense contractor).

[Internships and Jobs] PSA for International Students - Many top companies no longer hire F-1 students for internships

Hey guys - I've been a lurker in r/MSCS for a while. I wanted to share an experience I had recently. I’m a domestic student.

I'm currently interning for a major, red-themed semiconductor company in the SF Bay Area. When I met my fellow interns on the first day and asked everyone where they were from, I realized that there wasn't a single international student in the incoming intern class. I asked some of the engineers, and it turns out that my company stopped hiring anybody on F-1 or H-1B. I was told that the company decided that it 'wasn't worth the effort' to hire international students given all the visa uncertainty. Apparently this was a recent policy change. This was a big shock to me considering the fact that the semiconductor industry has traditionally been really willing to sponsor foreign talent.

Just wanted to share my experience. I hope someone will find this information helpful.
