So… are Ichigo’s eyes going yellow when masked canon? Or not?
For very quick context, I am an artist. That’s part of why I’m looking for and care about this stuff. Thought it may be good to ask this here since this is a question that regards design canon of the manga.
I’m having a really hard time finding an answer to this. As we all, or should, know, Studio Pierrot did what Studio Pierrot did best, and added or changed stuff to the original run of Bleach’s anime.
One of these changes is White having yellow eyes. Volume 25’s cover, I believe, is one of the only times, if not the only time, we actually see White coloured by Kubo, and we see his irises are white. (Nothing else is shown though, so I have a really hard time trusting if the red on Ichigo’s bankai turns dark blue on White like we can see in the anime)
But I am having a really really hard time finding if Ichigo’s eyes when he’s hollowfied/masked going yellow is just anime canon, or if that’s canon-canon (and if that’s also the reason why White’s eyes were made yellow as well). I am hesitant to trust the coloured manga because they also sometimes don’t have all the details, and can frequently be just as wrong in the colours as the anime (Plus I don’t know what sources they would be pulling from specifically that I can’t find. Google is ass, I’m not saying they don’t exist. I just can’t find them)
I am also hesitant to trust BBS for small details like this because they pull from the anime.
However… the recent art at the end of the openings and endings, on the official Bleach channel uploads, contain new art of Ichigo… and his eyes are yellow when masked. And so are hollow Ichigo’s, instead of being straight black.
So… are Ichigo’s irises going yellow canon now? Or has it always been canon, and it was only White the anime messed with in this regard? (And, if it exists and anyone has it, I would really appreciate it if someone could send me a link to White in bankai coloured by Kubo. I thought something like that existed, apparently it doesn’t. I need confirmation on the underside going blue or not :( )
Or, hell, if someone can just give me a good substantial reason/proof to genuinely look to the coloured manga as a good source for small details like this, I would also be happy with that! I‘m just hesitant because they can also be wrong, unfortunately.
Also, fandom wiki coming in absolutely clutch on being wrong, once again, because they describe White as having black teeth... even though every other time since then, he’s had white teeth :/
