Very odd taste to Granny Smith…

I am not familiar with growing apple trees, but I’m responsible for some this year. I just picked a few Granny Smith apples to test out. To me, personally, they taste like blood and metal. It reminds me of my grandfather’s habit of putting salt on apple slices - those had the same taste. Outside these apples look perfect. Inside they look great. I just don’t know what happened! Can anyone help me understand what on earth went wrong? Thank you for reading 😊 any input appreciated.
