Summer Hammock Gear List 2026

Summer Hammock Gear List 2026

Hello r/hammockcamping!

New hammocker, and fairly experienced backpacker in the Pacific Northwest and West Coast of Canada.

Finally committed to try hammock camping this summer. Purchased my set up with the Hennesy Hammock Ultralight Backpacker with a separate HH 30D Silnylon Hex Tarp. Pairing it with a UL quilt and using my Themarest Neo Xlite from ground camping.

I've done a few practice pitches, and taking it out on a trip in a couple of weeks here.

I was hoping to share my lighterpack lists and gather some critiques and/or suggestions! I feel like its fairly dialed in already; taking many ideas from r/ultralight already.

Comments on my pack list:

- trying to hit a happy medium between lightweight and comfort

- using my old (but heavy) equipment like my arcteryx rain jacket, and fleece.. I know i can go lighter but I prefer my quality gear

- camp shoes/river crossings is a must. Even at 340g. Debated getting Jimmies for 200g instead though

- some pet gear, which includes my knife

Hammock future considerations :

- I wanted to spend a few months with the standard hennesy suspension setup to get a feel for it. Practicing the knots is good a good skill i figure.

- Planning ahead to upgrade to Dutchware Beetles + Spider Wrap + Dutch clips with a continuous amsteel from Dutchware. A good mix of weight savings and easy adjustability/setup

- I've already done some research on the weight savings with this upgrade. Currently the stock body + suspension comes to about 949g .. with the upgrade, the weight should come to about 459g. Thats a 490g (17.3oz) difference. Dropping my base weight close to 13lbs.

- seems like replacing the original 19ft of cord with amsteel loops and switching the tree webbing with dyneema is really significant.

- Will also attempt to make my own 3/4 length underquilt with an old down sleeping bag

Any other weight nerds out there with good hammock modifications reccomendations?

TLDR: first time hammock camper. Please review my lighterpack list. Thoughts on dutchware suspension upgrades in relation to weight savings

Wasn't sure to go with the medium or large as I feel like I have a longer torso. Went with the large and S/M hipbelt. The hip belt feels great. How does the load lifters look? Too steep?
