What’s the big YA trend these days?

I remember in the late 2000s and early 2010s, it was all paranormal romance, Twilight, Hush, Hush, The Mortal Instruments and that whole supernatural phase. Then dystopian YA took over with The Hunger Games and Divergent. I know Fourth Wing is pretty huge now, but beyond that, I honestly haven’t kept up with YA/NA in years. What’s the current trend?

Rosario Tijeras 5

Anyone watching the new season?

Show went haywire after season 1 but season 2 and 3 were very like too. Season 4 started a soft reboot of the series introducing Rosario’s daughter as a teenager. It had mix reviews but it was very grounded season, season 5 released not too long ago.

Season 5 took her character and literally do a 180 in personality and all characters from the previous season but 1 came back, unnecessary, specifically since they were almost main characters.

Spoilers:

After everything that went down in Season 4, I can’t believe what they did with Rosario’s daughter in Season 5. Her relationship with Rosario basically gets tossed in the trash after she spends a year working as a cartel hitman after literally watching this people hunt her mom and kidnap her.

I get the idea that trauma can change a person, and trauma bonding is a real thing, but a single year completely rewiring her personality to this extent felt ridiculous. It feels like some kind of Stockholm syndrome.

She went from being one of the more grounded and sympathetic characters to someone I actively found unlikeable. It honestly felt less like character development and more like they replaced her with a different character entirely.

Aspect Metalurgy

a magic system where a special metal act as carriers of personal “aspects”** **parts of identity, traits, or abilities. Instead of casting spells directly, users imbue metal with a chosen aspect, which then stores and expresses that property.
