M1300 Navy

I have two 28.5 and two 29cm 1300s. I'm right in-between sizes, but can wear either comfortably.

My wonkiest 991v2

My 40% off U991GL2 from Undefeated Japan arrived yesterday and the medial side has some evidence of someone in Flimby coming back from a liquid lunch 😂

I can live with it - and have to as Undefeated won't take returns for this - but it is extraordinary. But hey no loose threads!

Seriously though, this is "helping" me slow or even stop new acquisitions. With MADE pairs approaching 50,000 yen a pair now we are in absurd territory.

M991OLG

I cropped the legs today. Too damn hot, vascularity was insane 😂

I picked this up a few days ago for about 85USD here in Tokyo. Almost unused. A little brush and spray and good to go

I ❤️ 991s.

MT580 - Moon Daze

My favorite made in Asia model. The details on this one are subtle, but fun.

More Mizuno Wave Rider 10

Picked up two more today. At about 6500 yen each it is hard to resist 😂

I just love how these feel, the wave plate makes them unique and really works. I appreciate that Mizuno didn't water-down their original tech when retroing classic runners.

U18907NG in the gym

Just delivered before I left for the gym this morning. I took a gamble on these, buying from END for 14,000 yen with 2,000 yen shipping. That was way below Japan retail prices, but I did get hit with surprise import charges, so I will stick with buying domestic henceforth.

Much more comfortable than expected. I like the midsole a lot - it really suits me and is a significant contrast to the 2010 I bought and soon sold. Older tech is definitely more appealing to me. It is usually more stable and far more predictable when walking.

The toe box on these is low, but not terribly narrow. It is more constrictive than my 991s, though, for sure. I think one colorway is enough, and I liked this one the best, so overall I am satisfied. Approved by my wife, too, which is always good when you have 200+ sneakers in the house.

Updated thoughts on the New Balance 2010 - A lesson in mechanical stability.

I recently picked up the 2010 in the Tornado colorway and shared a post. After spending more time in them, I’ve refined my initial take, and I think it’s worth sharing for those who look at footwear as "equipment" rather than just fashion.

My initial in-store impression was that they felt overly soft. After putting them through real-world paces, the actual experience is more nuanced. The top layer of foam definitely yields under my 100+ kg frame, but it quickly hits a firmer substrate. It avoids the "total mush" failure I found with the ASICS GEL-NYC 2.0.

For those managing knee injuries or proprioceptive deficits: I’ve found that the NB 2010 requires a bit more active management than I initially expected. Because the high-rebound foam layer "pops" back with significant energy return, it can create a slightly unpredictable sensation during my gait cycle. If you are recovering from a lower-limb injury - specifically a quad rupture (as I did) or similar issue where eccentric control is compromised, this variability can be a drawback. Your brain is essentially having to "hunt" for the stable platform if the foam's compression profile changes too rapidly mid-stride.

In contrast, if you are looking for that "governed" feel, I’ve found that shoes with mechanical plates, like the Mizuno Wave Rider Beta, offer a more deterministic, "seamless" transition. The plate limits the foam's deformation, providing a level of predictability that the 2010 doesn't quite match.

Don't get me wrong, the materials and the build quality on the 2010 are top-tier for MiA, and they look the part. But for high-mileage walking or if you have specific biomechanical constraints, be aware that the "softness" comes with a side of active rebound that isn't for everyone.

Mizuno wave rider 1

Nikka Polka "construction worker" edition.

Corduroy, denim and suede. Nice reflective hits on the sides and laces. Very comfortable and supportive.

I changed my mind about the 2010

Saw the Tornado colorway and felt it couldn't hurt to try them, returns being free and all.

Tried them in house for a bit. My first impression in the store was that they were too soft, but these were just right.

That first layer of foam does indeed sink under my 100+ kg, but it settles into the firmer foam quickly. Not total mush like my last experiment, the Asics GEL NYC 2.0 was.

I just ordered the 991v2 forged iron today, but I want more 2010s as well.
