Can RetroPie run on Amlogic-based devices running Armbian/Linux?
Hi everyone!
I'm interested in running RetroPie on devices with Amlogic SoCs (like common TV boxes or similar SBCs) that can run Armbian or mainline Linux.
I know the Raspberry Pi is the gold standard for RetroPie, but since Amlogic chips are pretty capable and many can run full Linux distros, I'm curious:
Has anyone successfully gotten RetroPie or a similar emulation station setup running on Amlogic hardware?
What are the main hurdles — driver support, GPU acceleration, or something else?
Would EmulationStation + RetroArch work out of the box on ARM64 with Mali GPU drivers, or is heavy customization needed?
I'm specifically thinking about devices that support Armbian or other Linux builds, not Android.
Anyone with experience running emulators on Amlogic chips would be great to hear from!
