Thoughts & Opinions Please / Common Rail 5.9
Looking for input from you folks more knowledgeable with this platform than myself.
Scenario:
I’m looking to get into a pre-emissions diesel for simplicity and reliability sake. This pickup will be getting used on my small farm for some infrequent but moderately heavy towing (11-14k) as well as some light hauling and some daily driving.
My intention is to tune/add Fass or Air Dog/a couple bolt ons with the goal of reliably adding 75-100hp.
I’m looking at two comparably clean, low to no rust common rail 5.9 pickups:
Option 1: a 2004 (305hp/555tq) 48RE truck with 144k miles on the clock, reasonably priced.
Option 2: a 2005 (325hp/600tq) G56 truck with 124k miles on the clock, somewhat overpriced.
Am I better off overpaying for the G56 truck and enjoying the cheaper upgrade of the clutch as part of the build or paying the lower price for the 48RE truck and accepting the more expensive upgrade of a built Randy’s or Suncoast?
