Book Review: Accelerando by Charles Stross (2005)
Accelerando ★★★★☆☆☆ (7/10)
This is one of the most technically imaginative science fiction books I’ve ever read. The projections it makes about AI, uploaded consciousness, forked identities, post-scarcity economics, and posthuman evolution are absolutely wild—and somehow still feel plausible. It raises fascinating philosophical questions about identity and what it means to be human.
Unfortunately, it’s also an absolute circus. The relentless barrage of socio-political, economic, and internet-era jargon, combined with increasingly bizarre scenarios, made it more of a slog than a joy to read. Everything is internally consistent, but the book rarely gives the reader a chance to breathe.
I actually liked the characters more than I expected (Aineko was a fun twist), but they often felt secondary to the avalanche of ideas. This is a book I admire more than I enjoyed. I’m glad I finished it, but I have no desire to read it again.
While I feel most of it would be beyond the general reader, I think Accelerando will land best with a niche audience of technophiles. It’s not a 404… but it may leave many readers feeling like they’ve encountered one.
Thoughts on Trading Jonathan Taylor?
I passed on the trade because I hate the idea of losing a proven fantasy asset like JT for the second overall pick. Our half PPR dynasty league has me drafting 6 of 8 this year. I finished third in playoffs last year when JT had been dropping off in points. I understand he will in all likelihood regress this year - still though, I don’t think a top ten finish is a wild proposition. So I have a bit of an issue with giving JT up for a top WR prospect.
But this is only my second year at dynasty so wtf do I know? 1st pic is my the trade I rejected, second and third are my roster going into the draft. Thoughts? I know I’m desperate at WR.
What WR are you targeting for a 1v1 trade if you have Johnathan Taylor?
Last year was our inaugural dynasty year and I did alright. First overall for regular season and third for playoffs. I put JT on the block to see if there was any interest but nothing really except for an offer for Nico Collins. The weakest part of my roster is the WR corps so I’m wondering who would be a decent 1 for 1 there. Thoughts? I felt Collins was a bit low there especially with Stroud as QB.
Redemption Steak!
I got burned hard for a steak I cooked on Thursday for kiddo. So hard, in fact, that I needed a redemption steak. How’d I do?

Kiddo asked for steak for his bday. How’d I do?
I salted the steaks last night before bed and let them rest uncovered in the fridge overnight. The coals were too cold so the steaks spent longer on the grill than I would like, but that’s meat and fire for ya. I used the demi glacé to make the pan sauce with red wine, shallots, beef stock and thyme (and plenty of butter).
