Differentiation based on ability/needs for reading and math, what does your school do?

Basically the title, what does your school do for math or reading differentiation. We have always differentiated for reading (since Kindergarten) based on what specific skills a child needs to work on. If a child is above grade level they are put in a group where they basically work on comprehension and/or more creative writing and storytelling. For reference each classroom teacher (5 classes in his grade) takes a specific group and/or the reading recovery specialists and gifted and talented teachers also take a group.

For math it's an adventure because there is no formal differentiation until 4th grade. That's when they actually move to an accelerated or regular track with different material that continues through middle/high school. What enrichment looked like last year in 1st grade was on days they used iready for math which obviously gives you harder problems as it adapts to you but on days where it was classroom instruction everyone does the same thing. This year there is less emphasis on tablets (yay!) so everyone gets the same but the G&T specialist is supposed to work with the classroom teachers to provide enrichment for the students who need it (my son is on that list) but nothing has started yet. I'm glad iready is being used less because I think it has a ton of issues, but now I'm wondering how not really being challenge will go.

Overall, I'm just honestly curious what other schools do in 2nd grade and maybe pre-emptively slightly worried because my son's 1st grade teacher mentioned frustration at conferences that he would totally space out during math instruction but then he never had to ask questions when they went to do their individual work and easily did the work he was supposed to even though he didn't pay attention during the lesson. It was the case of him being bored or not engaged and but also it wasn't her biggest problem in the class so she was like it's not a big deal so I wasn't sure what to do with that info. Basically I told him hey even if you know the material be polite and focus on the teacher...and then she went out on maternity leave the rest of the year so I have no idea what occurred in class lol

For the record a month in it seems like his 2nd grade teacher is a much better fit for him and he likes her class so maybe we won't have a repeat of last year...but anyways what do your schools do?

For all the moms worried about starting childcare…

I give you my 5 and 7 yrs olds commentary…

My kids started school Monday. They get dropped off at before care between 730-745ish, school is 930-340 and then on Tues-Thurs (our in office days) go to aftercare until about 430.

Yesterday (day 1) I picked them up and they promptly told me to come back later because they hadn’t had enough time with their friends. Today my husband picked them up at 415p because we had to leave for soccer and flag football at 5ish so trying to get a big snack/small dinner in before…all I heard from my 7 yr old was how it wasn’t fair he had to leave earlier…mind you when he was literally on his way to football practice also with his friends 🤦‍♀️🙄

They’re happy to go in the morning, they enjoy school, they enjoy after care, and apparently I am the one ending their social life prematurely 😂I remember worrying so much when they were babies about having long days away from me. I wish I could go back to that version of myself dropping them off and tell her your kids are going to be just fine…actually they’ll thrive.

I swear they also like us…my 7 yr old made me lay in his bed for 20 min after practice and wanted to chat my ear off about his 3rd day of 2nd grade 💙

If you had capsular contracture...what did the early phases feel like??

Obligatory Disclaimer- Yes I have already scheduled an appt with my plastic surgeon to discuss.

I have over the muscle silicone implants that were placed in April '24, some follow up fat grafting in Feb '25 but haven't had any issues. I'm now noticing my left implant is definitely not as soft as the right. The right basically feels like a regular boob (as much as an implant can)...my left doesn't squish in the same way. It still compresses but not nearly as much, especially on the upper left quadrant near my armpit. So now I'm starting to wonder do I have early capsular contracture (it does still move when I bend over or lay on my back), did some of the fat that was grafted just die and now I have some weird scar tissue, or is the pocket of my left side just smaller and the implant doesn't move as freely as the right.

It doesn't really affect me, I do plenty of chest/upper body exercises when I'm weightlifting with no issue, but if its something I need to take care of so it doesn't get worse I'd want to do that. So I'm mainly just curious if anyone did have capsular contracture how did it start or what were your symptoms? Are there any questions you'd suggest asking when I meet with my surgeon?
