Voidfall - played my first game on normal difficulty today

Voidfall - played my first game on normal difficulty today

Man this game is something else. I feel like I’m getting my bearings a bit and checking rule book less often. I’m barely scratching the surface but feels good to win on normal. Felt like easy hasn’t been super dooper difficult.

Snuck out the victory by 17 points. Shout out to completing a safe haven and removing a harbinger after all actions were complete for the 30 point swing.

There is a chance I may have missed something small but pretty sure I played everything right.

Also anyone tryna get into the game the tutorial is super helpful and then table for ones videos have been invaluably helpful

This post had a few things going on with it.

First I want to praise this game and maybe help others see if it piques their interest.

Pros -

Solo mode is super easy to manage

Looks great

Very quick. Feels similar to a white castle or nusfjord 30-60 minute run time.

Lots of variability - different starting boards, different asymmetric powers (you start with one and then can earn another one via upgrade tech tracks, so some games you’ll get 2 some just 1 but the combo of them can be spicy too) different scoring objectives, different building, different ways to build out your board, dice drafting always leads to different things with different rolls

Great resource conversion system.

Cons

Lots of pieces to set up. But honestly not really a con. I can have the game set up in easily under 10 minutes, probably closer to 5. Which feels fine for a game around 30-60 minutes

Byos - I don’t mind this. But some may dislike this. But it also forces you to achieve 2 scoring tile objectives (that don’t actually score for you) as a true win loss condition

I sat on the fence over a year thibkigg n about getting it. And then finally pulled the trigger when I needed a lil bit more spend to get free shipping on an order and it was on sale two. So really worked out well. And I initially had buyers remorse as I try not to add more meh games to my overly large collection but I’m so happy I was wrong. I really enjoy this game and it’s much more than meh.

2nd thing I was going to talk about this game was the solo scoring. I’ve only played once before today. And twice this morning. I read online sometimes scoring the base 100 needed to win was diffficult. But in my first game I had 125 which earns the silver medal.

Then my first game today only got 117 which was worse and bronze medal.

So I was gonna ask for tips and tricks from people who have played a lot and gave maybe got the palladium score >180. But I had so much fun with game 1 I just reset it up for game 2 and shocked myself and scored 185. And had neither of my win loss condition goals met at start of third era. I was 25% done with one and 0% done with the other. But clutched it out with good dice rolls and a game plan and that allowed me to win the game

I know I got super lucky but still curious on what other scores people are getting in this game.
