Vista Lake, June 20th
Vista Lake is a nice option if you’re looking for a lovely alpine lake. Just don’t mind the elevation loss at the beginning 🤠 Trail is cleared of deadfall to Arnica Lake (thanks trail crew!), but is very snowy and the trail is running with water between Arnica and Twin Lakes. We didn’t bother going all the way to Twin, as we felt it best to let the trail dry out before churning it up.
Wind Ridge, Kananaskis
Had a great day out on Wind Ridge! Little mucky on the lower trail, but otherwise a good trail and a tiny bit of scrambling if you want it (there’s bypasses).
Mount Ishbel, lined up nearly perfectly with an outlier of the Finger (which is pictured 2nd)
From near the “summit” of Muleshoe Ridge. This is no hidden gem by the way, to any visitors seeing this. Deadfall aplenty and I lucked out with only 2 ticks yesterday; this route is known for its ticks. But if you’re a local and looking for a grind this will do the tick. I mean trick.
Here’s some pictures from Tonquin Valley in Jasper NP, NOT posted by bots, but actually taken by me this past September (2025)
Due to the ongoing closures from the Jasper Wildfire Complex, we entered and exited via Portal trailhead. One night at Portal, one at Amethyst Lake, and one at Portal. Would love to go back and explore the Eremite Valley and stay at the Wates Gibson hut :)
Wasootch Peak is a nice little conditioner if you’re in need of ideas for early season :)
Very little snow left, and most of the patches can be bypassed. Minor scramble near the summit, but it’s not exposed. Good grind to get your butt in shape for the season!
Took advantage of great weather on one of my days off in August and did a loop I had been eyeing a while. Fairview Mountain and Saddle Peak first via Saddleback Pass, then down into Paradise Valley to check out Lake Annette, Giant Steps and the lake at the back of the valley, then out via Moraine Lake Highline Trail. Roughly 36km distance and 1700m gain. I had a really enjoyable day, would definitely do it again!
