For example here are some of the things I always do, that give me that “omg it’s really here!” feeling….

- I always listen to Jaded with ambient start as the plane takes off

- we always go to Brass Armadillo on the first day and I buy something bizarre. Last year I bought a collage made from a Victorian lady’s teeth. If you’ve not been to Brass Armadillo before then WHY NOT???!!

- We always get donuts from Voodoo Donuts on the way to the pop up.

- We always eat at that McDonalds in Denver airport departures, and it’s the most depressing moment of the year lol.

- I always watch the Shawn Ryan interview in its entirety on the plane back, as it takes me halfway home (I’m from the UK) This is fairly new as the interview was only a couple of years ago.

What are some of yours?

There was strong evidence to say he would, but also significant evidence to say he wouldn’t. It’s an odd one and I’m so intrigued. Anyone there? Anyone know? There doesn’t seem to be any of the usual clips, photos etc around that we normally see after a gig.

I love Antisec, and it seems fitting to post as it’s Defcon this weekend in Vegas. Written by someone in our community group and I found it really interesting, they suggested I post it here. How much of this is an accurate take (about YTCracker himself or the lyrics)? Any gaps that can be filled in or misinformation that can be corrected?……

Deadmau5 (ft YTCracker) - Antisec

Antisec. (Noun). Also spelled AntiSec or anti-sec. Short for anti-security. Referring to OSec or otherwise known as Online Security. Wikipedia it. It mainly refers to a movement meant to avoid exposing personal information online.

Some back-story about the featured artist (YTCracker). YT stands for Yours Truly. A play on a character in a movie and an online courier service. He learned programming starting at the age of 4. He hacked many prominent sites several years ago and was charged with criminal mischief for taking down a Colorado Springs municipal site. Also, he’s admitted to being a leader of Anonymous.

So let’s break the lyrics down:

He was an early leader of Anon

“Screaming, hack the planet back in '99”
Y2K before Web 2.0

“Hacktivism in its prime, global hell had the dot mil rooted”
Hacktivism is hacking for good. Global hell could refer to the way the internet threw a lot of problems into the world. Dot mil could be referring to the 2000s or the .mil TLD extension which was exclusive to the military. Rooted means full admin access.

“Alphabet soup and their troops in the suits, kid”
Refers to the Google conglomerate, Alphabet, and their tendency to sue or take legal action.

“Kicking down doors and seizing my equipment”
Refers to authoritative search and seizure.

“Blocking all my shipments, sitting on their hitlist”
Sounds like some dark web stuff being authoritatively desisted and monitored.

“O-day radical emphatic beat addict”
O day, or otherwise 0-day, is a common exploitation of tech that happens the first day it’s launched. 0 is usually the first entry in databases.

“In the stab hit, I envelope the game call me rabbit (rabbit)”
Rabbit Mail is an anonymous email service

“Hop to hop, I run the internet equivocally”
Further play on Rabbit Mail and Anon

“Bitch, I be hit 'em with the bytestyle symmetry”
This refers to algorithmic hashing in the field of cryptography. In other words, how one would hack an encrypted structure.

“Digi-g digital gangster rapping 'til I'm dead”
Only thing I could find about DigiG is a German law to digitize the healthcare system.

“Steady grep apache logs when I'm looking for the feds”
Grep is a Unix command-line command to search text that you can automate on steady intervals. Apache is a network server that logs network traffic in and out. So this is a reference to searching the IP addresses visiting a site, specifically searching for the federal government monitoring his servers.

“Fast-forward, now the internet anonymous”
Now VPNs are common and reference to Anon.

“And captains on the Lulzboat raise the mast prominent dominant hacks”
The Lulzboat is a fork of Anon. Reference to a boat raising a mast in order to gain speed.

“Antisec on that new-new”
Lulzboat is intending to do Antisec

“Dropping tables in MySQL like it was some poo poo”
Dropping a table on MySQL is deleting all of the info in that database.

“Pound Antisec, pound it through your speakers

Spread the movement of Antisec. If you’re a part of Lulzsec, show some respect.

They hacked Sony.

“Got that MD5, we rocked ya macaroni”
MD5, also known as a checksum, is a cryptographic way to verify a piece of software is legitimate. Macaroni refers to the shell of a computer, or the lowest level of a computer’s control. If you have access to the shell, you have full control. So he’s saying if you use MD5, I’ll hack you.

“Cook coke crack, then boil like a noodle”
Not sure about this one, maybe cracking software. Another reference to the shell.

“While HBGary stay toast like a streudel”
HBGary was a security firm that got hacked by Anon.

“Rootshell on ya bootstrap, now who's that?”
Bootstrap typically means a software stack thrown together without sufficient security or a front-end library. Rootshell means you have full access.

“Botnet mjoin and drop ya whole C-class”
Botnet means many servers that are compromised. Mjoin means many connections. C class refers to a cluster of IP addresses.

“See class? It is evident, we flossing”
FLOSS is a suite of web server tech.

“Ion Canon in the proc list, D dosing”
Canon was hacked by Anon via a DDOS vulnerability. Proc list is short for process list, or list of processes, on a Unix system.

“Lean back, bitch, we be sending an injection”
SQL injection is a common database vulnerability attack. Double sexual entendre

“Magic quotes off join table intersection”
Magic quotes is an old PHP vulnerability. Join table intersection is a combo of two database operations that is also an old vulnerability.

“Put it up on pastebin, it won't get erased then”
Pastebin is a cloud service you can post code to that vulnerabilities are often posted to.

“20 million hits to your dome like some cavemen (yeah)”
That’s a lot of organic traffic or refers to a DDOS attack.

“Ask CNN, you want an interview?”
He has documentaries about him and likely was approached by CNN.

“Send a Priv message to the nickname”
This refers to a DM on old messaging platform. Doesn’t mention his nick (name) but it was YTCracker. Cracker meaning black hat hacker. YT being an old courier service named Yours Truly. Deadmau5 got his name from IRC cause he found a dead mouse in his computer and character limits meant he had to shorten it by 1 character.

“On IRC, man we convening”
Because both him and deadmau5 claimed their artistic identities through their usage of IRC

“This some '99 throwback shit that I'm poo poo”
Callback to the start of his hacking career.

I am asking because if there was one then the festival set and after party would push this into the “justifiable” category in terms of international travel. Without knowing it’s hard to know what to do - I have a big birthday this summer and am weighing up options of what to do to celebrate that is mau5 related.
