Advocating for a local bike lane network
Hi Bed-Stuy folks, I was disturbed to see yet another incident of a car crashing into the sidewalk, putting at risk pedestrians and local businesses. Our neighborhood is comprised of gorgeous, narrow, neighborhood streets that cars regularly speed through. It is extremely dangerous to bicyclists, but as we see it also endangers people simply walking on the sidewalk and local businesses which are literally getting destroyed.
Bike lanes not only protect bicyclists but reduce car traffic on narrow streets and generally slow down traffic speed. There are many blocks in our neighborhood that could easily accommodate painted green bike lanes without much parking loss. Off the top of my head I’m thinking Marcus Garvey, Marcy, Lewis, Putnam, Stuyvesant, Halsey … the list goes on.
Anyone in the neighborhood interested in coming together to think through a local bike lane network we could advocate for? With Eon Huntley joining Chi and Jabari next year we’d have favorable political reps to advocate with. I genuinely believe our neighborhood could have an entire network of bike lanes that will increase safety for all of us, including drivers.
Let me know! Everyone stay safe out there.
