Embody Review — A negative experience
I strongly recommend avoiding Embody, especially if you are transferring from another GLP-1 provider and already have an established dose
I switched to Embody from another company because of their advertised lower costs and lack of a membership fee. During sign-up, Embody specifically requested documentation of my existing prescription so that they could continue my current dosing. I provided it.
Despite that, my first prescription from Embody was for 2.125 mg / 11 units, which was more than a 50% decrease from the dose I had already been taking. It was essentially treated like I was starting over at an unusually low dose, despite the fact that they had requested and received my previous prescription information.
I noticed the issue immediately and contacted customer service. I was told that once the provider had written the prescription, there was nothing they could do and that they would not consider an increase request until four weeks had passed. They seemed completely uninterested in the fact that I was not asking for an ordinary dose increase. I was trying to correct a substantial decrease from my already-established dose.
As my refill approached, I contacted customer service multiple times because I wanted to address the problem before I ran out of medication. The responses ranged from no response at all to answers that did not address what I was asking. Eventually, I was told customer service could not process a dosing request and that I would need an appointment with a provider.
They sent me a scheduling link. The earliest appointment available was approximately ONE MONTH away, several weeks after my refill would be due. When I explained that this obviously did not solve the problem, I received no meaningful response.
I tried again the following day with another representative and explained the entire situation. I was simply sent another link to schedule an appointment, as though they had not read anything I had written.
A third representative finally told me the issue would be escalated to the clinical team and that someone would call me that day. At that point, I was relieved because I finally thought someone had understood the problem.
No one called.
My refill form then became available. The form specifically allowed me to request a dosage increase, so I selected that option. A message appeared stating that a provider would review my request within 24 hours.
Three days passed with no review.
I contacted customer service yet again. I was told they could not discuss dosing through chat and that I would receive an email. The email never arrived. When I explained that, I was essentially told, “Just wait for your provider.” I explained that I was about to run out of medication and had already been charged. The response remained: wait for the provider.
Two more days passed.
I contacted customer service AGAIN. Initially, I
was told that my refill was under review by the clinical team and that I would hear back soon. After I pushed back because I was now out of medication despite having already been charged, the representative suddenly gave me completely different information.
He told me that because their system showed me as having an appointment scheduled for the following month, my prescription request was not visible to providers at all. In other words, while I had been repeatedly told to “wait for the provider” and assured my request was being reviewed, according to this representative, no provider could even see it.
I had never wanted or needed an appointment a month later in the first place. I had only scheduled it because their own customer service told me that was the only way to discuss my dosage.
The representative said he would cancel the appointment, which supposedly would make my refill request visible to the providers again.
At that point, I asked to speak directly with someone from the clinical team so I could verify what was happening with my medication. I was told I could not speak to the clinical team without scheduling an appointment.
But I was also told that scheduling an appointment would once again prevent the providers from seeing or processing my medication request.
Make that make sense.
I have used three different GLP-1 telehealth companies, and I have never experienced anything remotely like this. With other companies, I have had access to timely provider appointments, clinical messaging, and an actual avenue for discussing medication concerns.
With Embody, my experience has left me seriously questioning how accessible or involved their clinical team actually is. I obviously cannot know how their clinicians are staffed internally, but from a patient perspective, there appears to be an enormous wall between customers and anyone capable of making a medical decision. Customer service repeatedly gives contradictory information, promises escalations or callbacks that never happen, and appears unable to communicate effectively with the clinical side of the company.
That is especially concerning for a company prescribing medication.
Their customer service has also been some of the worst I have encountered. Many responses seem disconnected from the conversation, as though the representative has not read the previous messages at all. Whether this is poorly implemented AI, outsourced support, inadequate training, or something else, I cannot say. What I can say is that getting a straightforward answer has been nearly impossible. When I challenge contradictory information, conversations frequently go nowhere.
There are other issues I wish I had known before signing up as well. For example, Embody’s maximum tirzepatide dose is reportedly 11 mg, which is below the FDA-approved maximum weekly dose of 15 mg. That is extremely important information for patients transferring from another provider or already taking higher doses, and it should be made very clear before someone pays for treatment.
After experiencing all of this, I looked into other customer experiences and found numerous reports describing very similar problems, particularly from people transferring from another GLP-1 provider.
The lower advertised price is not worth it if you cannot reliably communicate with a clinician or get your medication managed appropriately.
I would not recommend Embody. If you are already established on a GLP-1 medication, especially at anything beyond a starter dose, I would strongly suggest using a company that provides direct, timely access to its medical team and clearly discloses its dosing limitations before taking your money.
TLDR: shitty company who takes your money, prescribes weird doses, and ignores you.
