Advice for older dog grooming
Hi! Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but I just want some professional opinions if possible. I have a Great Pyrenees/German Shepherd mix that we adopted when she was 7 years old. She’s now almost 10 and about 135lbs. She used to be fine at the groomer, according to her previous owners. But due to her getting much older, she has very little patience for grooming. She is the furthest thing in the world from aggressive but I have had groomers say multiple things about her refusing to stand, her being too heavy to groom, her growling (never snapping). I’ve experienced all this while brushing her at home and it’s getting to the point where she’s getting mats that I desperately want to prevent. My wife and I have talked about possible shaving her to prevent this but I understand that this can heavily damage her double coat and cause temperature issues and even more matting. We’ve been through about 20 different groomers since getting her, none of them would allow us a second appointment due to behavior or size. Which is totally understandable, but kind of frustrating. pls help lol
