Lower Control Arm

Hi all,

Ive been having issues with my 2023 Cx50 since April. I originally heard a clunk noise when going over a bump while turning, such as when entering my driveway. Mazda replaced both fwd CV axles over the course of 2 months.

I went out of the country for a few weeks and then I noticed it again when I got home.. took it back to Mazda and they swore up and down they couldn't find anything wrong. I needed my car and there were no loaners so I took it back. Doing my own research I have determined that the issue is my Left front lower control arm.

Online, at mazdaswag and others, the lower control arm costs about $215. I am at 41,000 miles so out of bumper to bumper.

Does anyone have any idea if the lower control arm would be covered under 60k powertrain? Or is this just a normal wear item? If not, has anyone had theirs replaced and have an idea of what the dealership would charge?

Thanks!

Hi all,

My 2023 cx50 (with 38,000 miles) started making clunking noises when turning. I reviewed this sub and it was extremely helpful to narrow the issue to the CV axle.

I went to the dealership, they replaced the driver side axle no problem and under warranty. Took it home....still the sound. Took it back and they replaced the passenger side CV axle no problem and under warranty. (I can't believe it's not standard to replace the axles as a pair??) Picked it up and pulled in my driveway and still a clunking sound!

The sound is only made extreme left turn while going into the driveway over the bump. Took it back and now they are assuming it may be a strut issue.

Has anyone had a similar issue of going back and forth chasing a problem like this? Also, my loaner has been a 2026 cx50 preferred....and it feels different than mine? The steering feels looser, it seems to run a little more quiet, and the wipers are smoother? Is there a lot of under the hood improvements for 2026 over 2023 or am I just going crazy at this point? Thanks!

Tl;dr:

Both cv axles replaced in the front and still making clunking noise. Is 2026 model much better than 2023?
