Last Minute Job Offer

I’m going to be a first year teacher in the fall. I have been in contact with my dream school district, was able to do my observation hours at this district for my ACP, however when it came time for hiring they didn’t have any open positions.

I moved on and was offered another roll at another district which I gave my verbal acceptance to. They sent me the HR onboarding papers and on the same day the principal from my dream ISD reached out with an open position for me to interview for. They interviewed for about a week and this monday she called back saying she was sending my info to HR.

I was hoping to receive the OK from HR of this ISD before letting the other school that I was moving forward with another position. I filled out the HR paperwork but I didn’t sign the contract they sent. They’re a 4 day week school district so their school starts first week of August and I’m so anxious that I’m doing the wrong thing by waiting so long to tell them to find a replacement. At the same time if God forbid something goes wrong with HR at the new position I don’t want to be out of a job.

The ISD that I’m waiting on to hear back from HR is out today and tomorrow for the holiday so I probably won’t hear back from them till next week. 🙃

1st year teacher rant (TEA/Texas Teachers)

Why is every single step of the process like PULLING TEETH!

I am interviewing for my dream job in my dream school district for a PreK position and will need a SPED certification if I get the job.

I’m currently in Florida and will be moving back to Texas this summer before the school year. Unfortunately here in Florida, the testing centers have one appointment a month. I had to fly to Texas to take my STR and EC-6 earlier this year.

I took the SPED course and finished the practice test on the same day. They graded my test and never marked it as complete and I realized this two days after they graded it. I had to call and have them mark it as complete and it’s now showing as approved. Now I have to wait AGAIN for them to send it to Pearson so I can schedule my test. I need the results to come before the school year starts and to do that I’d have to take the test before July 4th.

It’s actually crazy how in all of Florida there is literally one appointment on Wednesday of this week and I’m calling and begging Texas Teachers to send over my test to Pearson and they’re “escalating it.”

Does anyone have a Texas Teachers insider that can help 😂😂 Kidding! (but kinda not!)

Teaching in Melissa ISD

Was looking for some insight on teaching elementary at Melissa ISD. I see they have a lot of posting for each of their campuses so was wondering if anyone had any first hand experiences with it!

I had a second interview thursday of last week, followed up after the interview but haven’t heard back. Admin and the principal were really responsive and sweet to me. The second interview went great!

I received this email today though… does this mean I got the job? Why would HR send this out and Admin not reaching out saying I got the job? Do I need to pass the background check first? I am a first year teacher so just a little confused on the process!
