Why was 311 shut down 4th of July evening?
We get the McKinney newsletter regularly and they emphasized calling 311 for fireworks related calls this year and avoiding 911. We actually are not fond of calling the police for anything so no need to call me out as a tattle tale, but we do have neighbors who shoot off fireworks and also neighbors that do not appreciate a long evening of hearing fireworks nearby as it upsets their dogs or veterans in the neighborhood. Our neighbor texted to let us know they had tried talking to the neighbors who were shooting fireworks and got no relief. They tried calling 311 and the line says it was unavailable in our area at this time. I verified this and advised the neighbor to try 911 since the 311 line is shut down.
I plan to email our city council about this service being unavailable on a night the citizens were encouraged to rely on it for non emergency calls. Is there any other way to inform our city that shutting down this service is unacceptable?
