Build More Housing Near Transit Act

If you’re unfamiliar with “urbanism,” it's how inhabitants of urban areas, such as towns and cities, interact with the built environment. Positive urbanism inherently supports public transit and mixed use zoning, with an emphasis on making it easier to do everyday errands without needing a vehicle.

As a native Dallasite, I’ve noticed that there is quite a lack of this kind of infrastructure outside of very few places, which is crazy given the population size.

This doesn't apply to just DFW, but I’m working on a campaign to get local officials involved in supporting this kind of legislation forward. One small step in that is furthering the Build More Housing Near Transit Act. August is coming up, and if you want to get more involved in local politics, this is a great starting point.

Local moving company (Princeton to Carrollton)

Local moving company (Princeton to Carrollton)

So I am moving to Princeton to Carrollton, no furniture, just some kitchen and cleaning machines, and few suitcases which has cloths and shoes.

Moving into my first apartment, I could do it in 3 to 4 trips back and forth in my Nissan Rogue but it will be raining all week and I recently started driving.

Please suggest less costly and reliable option.

Seeking Reputable Gun Stores in McKinney - FFL receiving multiple items

I own several guns that are located in Indiana and I will be shipping them to myself. Does anyone have any recommendations on stores that charge a reasonable rate and have a good reputation?

To be clear, I own these guns. I don’t want to drive them back to Texas myself, and I’d rather not take them through the airport.

They are not monetarily valuable, but a couple of them are family heirlooms/antiques so I want to make sure I use someone reliable.

What’s happening behind hobby lobby on 380?

There’s a bunch of police and they taped off a huge area behind the hobby lobby store on 380. Looked like the corner van….

Hey y'all! it's been a while since the last Bad Movie Night (January), and I already made a post for the next one, but that was 20+ days ago, so since it's only a few week away I figured I would make another lol. Anyway, if you don't know what bad movie night is it's basically just where I invite all my friends and people from reddit to come drink and watch bad movies! I've been doing it for almost a decade now. Here is a Dallas observer article about it (the article was written before I started transitioning so it uses the wrong pronouns)

https://www.dallasobserver.com/arts-culture/dex-nichols-hosts-a-bad-movie-night-at-his-house-11577478/

Anyway, like the title says it's the 23rd of this month! Just leave a comment or send me a message if you wanna come :)

Some old posts I made about previous movie nights

Need to rehome my cat Bast (6M) - incredibly cuddly orange tabby, amazing with kids/dogs/cats + flyer included

This is really hard for me to post, but I’m looking to find a loving new home for my cat Bast.

Bast is a 6-year-old orange tabby that I adopted from a shelter when he was about 6 months old. He was actually about to be put down, and I’ve had him ever since. He’s neutered, fully up to date on vaccines, and has been an indoor cat his entire life.

Personality-wise, Bast is honestly one of the sweetest cats I’ve ever met. He’s extremely affectionate and cuddly, like “cannot not cuddle.” He basically acts like my shadow and always wants to be near people. He’s energetic, curious, vocal in a cute way, and honestly a little too smart for his own good.

He’s fantastic with kids, other cats, and dogs (he grew up around a dog). He’s also incredibly tolerant and gentle. Even when my younger brother visited as a toddler and tried to carry him around, Bast would just patiently put up with it. He has never clawed or bitten anyone.

He’s high-energy and social, but not destructive. He really thrives when he has people around him and gets a lot of companionship and attention.

The only reason I’m rehoming him is because of life circumstances. My fiancée is highly allergic to cats, we’re moving to a much smaller apartment in NYC soon, Bast does not handle travel well, and between our work schedules I can’t give him the attention he deserves anymore.

I’m located in Frisco (Stonebriar area). My priority is finding him a genuinely loving home where he’ll be cared for and spoiled the way he deserves. I’ll also be a little selective about where he goes because he means a lot to me, and I’d love to be able to check in occasionally to make sure he’s doing well.

I included a flyer with more info as well.

If you think you might be a good fit for Bast, please send me a message and I can share more details/photos or set up a meet-and-greet.

Thoughts on the McKinney Airport expansion?

Hello all,

I'm the aviation reporter for The Dallas Morning News. I'm working on a feature story about the McKinney Airport expansion and am hoping to speak with a couple of residents about how they feel about it (all opinions/viewpoints welcome). If you'd like to talk on the record (your full name would be used), please private message me.

Thanks in advance!

Looking for clean, quiet, and safe apartments

My husband and I are moving to the north DFW area. We toured an apartment in Plano and left feel unsure now. We are now expanding our search to McKinney and other areas. We were hopping for a two bed (open to a one bed) that is under $1,800 base rent. With all utilities and such we are trying to stay under 2k. We just want a place with no bugs, that is quiet, and clean place to live. I have looked at some of the reddit posts on this sub and some have had mixed reviews online. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I thought I'd add our budget is pretty fixed as we are moving up for my medical needs. My health has gotten worse and with medical costs, we need to stick to budget for rent unfortunately.

Considering a Move from Canada to Dallas Suburbs — Best Areas for Families?

We’re a family currently living in Oakville, Ontario (Canada) and are seriously considering moving to the Dallas area in the next couple of years.

I run a tech business, have two kids (elementary/middle school age), and we’re trying to understand what areas would realistically fit our lifestyle long term.

Our priorities are:

  • Very safe family-oriented suburbs
  • Strong public schools
  • Good environment for kids activities/sports
  • Access to golf, cycling, running, triathlon-type outdoor activities
  • Warm weather compared to Ontario
  • Good Indian/international community is a plus
  • Prefer newer, cleaner, well-planned areas
  • Budget is flexible, but we still care about value

The areas that keep coming up are:

  • Frisco
  • Prosper
  • Southlake
  • Plano
  • Coppell
  • Flower Mound
  • Allen

Would love honest opinions from people actually living there:

  • Which areas feel the safest day-to-day?
  • Which suburbs have the best overall quality of life for families?
  • Are there areas locals would strongly recommend OR avoid?
  • How bad is summer heat really for outdoor life?
  • If you moved from another state/country, what surprised you most?

Also curious how Dallas suburbs compare to places like Raleigh/Cary NC for long-term family life.

One more thing we’re trying to understand is realistic income expectations for these areas.

For a family with 2 kids wanting:

  • a safe neighborhood
  • good public schools
  • a detached home
  • kids activities/sports
  • occasional travel
  • comfortable but not ultra-luxury living

what household gross income would you consider:

  • “comfortable”
  • “very comfortable”
  • “upper-end” lifestyle

in places like Frisco, Prosper, Southlake, Plano, etc.?

Appreciate any insights, especially from families with kids or people who relocated recently.
