Walmart nixes trash bins
Part of my job involves repair of retail equipment. Being the largest retailer in the country, I visit a LOT of Walmart stores. Over the last few months, I've noticed it is nearly impossible to find a trash bin at Walmart.
Today I finally mentioned this to an employee at one store, and learned it was a corporate decision...
Apparently, they claim it is to reduce theft, as thieves were disposing of packaging and pocketing the items. Or maybe items were being dropped in the trash, and dumpster divers were later retrieving them? (Likely not the case, as most stores use trash compactors).
I could almost believe that was the reasoning, except the trash bins in the parking lots wouldn't be a risk. However, those were the first I noticed disappeared. More likely, Walmart doesn't want to deal with trash, so they claim it is to reduce shrinkage in stores. 🙄
