(Jonathan Mayo's newest mock) MLB Pipeline 2026 mock draft May 21
Flora #3 to Twins, Lackey falls to #5

Flora #3 to Twins, Lackey falls to #5
For Georgia Tech, top catching prospect (and likely top 4 pick) Vahn Lackey and shortstop prospect (and likely top 3 round pick) Carson Kerce each went yard for 2 homers each.
Cam Flukey went 4 innings, gave up 2 hits, 1 run, 3 walks and struck out 6 batters. Good outing for him and good timing to stay in the top half of the first round.
Liam Peterson went 5 innings, gave up 1 earned run on 7 hits, 0 walks and struck out 8 on 94 pitches. Like Flukey, a very well timed great outing!
Jackson Flora went 7 innings, 3 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks, 9 strikeouts, 105 pitches. Very good outing as he continues to stack performances in the leadup to the draft
Jackson Flora - 2026 - Baseball - University of California, Santa Barbara
Evan Dempsey 6IP, 4H, 0R, 2BB, 10K, 99 pitches. Making his big draft push with a great outing!
Baseball vs Central Arkansas on 5/21/2026 - Box Score - FGCU Athletics
"Their hitters get the platoon advantage less often than all but two teams, which makes them easy to manage against. They don’t have the impact hitters or platoon pairings to force pitching decisions."
Tom Verducci on the 2026 Giants
Joe Doyle of OverSlot baseball (formerly of ProspectsLive) went on Munter's podcast to discuss the upcoming draft. Summary:
-Seems to insinuate that the Giants are looking for a position player at #4
-He says pretty much everybody important in the Giants organization has talked with Vahn Lackey, but of course they don't seem to be optimistic that he'll be on the board at pick #4.
-Doyle expresses some concern over Jackson's Flora's lack of strikeouts compared to past college 1st round arms such as Chase Burns and Hagen Smith especially considering Flora pitches in the Big West while those other two were ACC/SEC respectively. He seems to view Flora as more of a #2 starter than an ace.
-Jacob Lombard is someone Doyle sees as a smooth broad-shouldered athlete. There are not many people as big as him that move like he does. Lombard struggled with breaking stuff on the showcase circuit last summer, but has been great this spring at Gulliver prep.
-EJ Booth is someone he sees as less smooth than Lombard with a flat swing path.
-For the 29th pick, Doyle mentions South Carolina prep lefty Carson Boleman as someone with 80 grade character makeup which is something the Giants value. He's pretty polished as a pitcher as well and should move fast through somebody's system.
-Socal two-way prep Jared Grindlinger is someone that was also brought up for the 29th pick, but he could be getting interest much higher than that. He's committed to Vitello's former employer at Tennessee, but he reclassified after Vitello left for SF job so there probably was not much recruiting contact there.
-South Carolina prep infielder Bo Lowrance is another name mentioned at 29, but he could be getting interest as high as #8 to the A's on an underslot deal.
-Doyle also mentions Brandon Arvidson (LHP) and Bo Rhudy (RHP) as two Tennessee Vols to look out for who could go in the first few rounds. They're being used at relievers at Tennessee, but could be converted to starters in professional baseball.
Cholowsky and Emerson both with 60FV.
Jacob Lombard (Florida prep infielder)- Son of George Lombard Sr. and younger brother of George Lombard Jr.
Jared Grindlinger (CA two way star)- brother of Tennessee Vols infielder Trent Grindlinger
Landon Thome (Illinois prep infielder)- son of Jim Thome
Kaeden Waechter (Florida prep righty)- son of Doug Waechter
Jaxson Willits (Oklahoma Shortstop)- son of Reggie Willits and older brother of last year's #1 overall pick Eli Willits
Peyton Bonds (Rutgers outfielder)- grandson of Bobby and nephew of Barry
Luke Nixon (NC State 2B)- son of former Red Sox outfielder Trot Nixon
Aidan Teel (Mississippi State outfielder)- younger brother of White Sox catcher Kyle Teel
Kuhio Aloy (OF Arkansas)- younger brother of last year's Orioles supplemental 1st rounder Wehiwa Aloy
Any others?
EDIT: Joseph Contreras (Georgia prep righty)- son of former White Sox pitcher Jose.
"Many people around baseball believe that the Giants, who have a 2026 team payroll of about $220 million, should cut out high-priced veterans, promote several of their prospects, and accept that you may have to lose now to win later. That's a move that San Francisco fans, who saw the club win three World Series titles in the previous decade, would be buried in the stands for a season or two.
However, anyone who has been watching what another storied franchise, the St. Louis Cardinals, has done since they decided to blow things up and start over. Stagnant as an aging and tired squad, the vets were shipped out this offseason, while new stars have emerged. In the end? A year that was supposed to be down and out in the Gateway City has seen the Redbirds (26-18) actually stay near the top of the National League Central division.
In reality, the Cards' start could end up being a mirage, and it's certainly an anomaly for them to be this good, this quick. Still, if this team loses around 100 games this season? Critics be damned, it may be time to peddle their wares this offseason. Something's gotta give in the Golden Gate City, and it may end up being the team's status as a contender for the next couple of years."

First full mock of the draft cycle for Kiley McDaniel of ESPN.
"The other complication here is the competition from below. The Giants have been rumored all spring to be aggressively trying to land Cholowsky or Emerson at No. 4 via an overslot bonus. They just traded Patrick Bailey to Cleveland in a deal that included getting the 29th pick, which comes with just under $3.3 million more pool money.
The industry chatter is that the Giants are both looking at prep lefties with the recently acquired pick and wanted more pool space to hopefully affect the top of the draft. Can the Giants offer enough money to embolden Cholowsky or Emerson to put their foot down on a price that would cause other teams to pass on one or both? Unlikely, but this scenario now has to be considered. It was a different regime, but this strategy is similar to how the Giants landed their current team president Buster Posey in the 2008 draft."
Jacob Lombard, SS, Gulliver Prep HS (FL)
Lombard is the hot name here, with Jackson Flora and Eric Booth Jr. the likely alternatives. The Giants seem to be setting a new course in the draft, leaning hard into upside and high school players: Lombard checks both boxes.
29. San Francisco Giants: Carson Bolemon, LHP, Southside Christian HS (SC)
The Giants are tied to a prep lefty at their newly acquired 29th pick; I think Bolemon would be their choice in this scenario.
Giants get pick 29 as part of deal for Bailey and it increases the Giants' bonus pool (while shrinking Cleveland's).
I was pumped to see that we got pick 29 as part of the Bailey trade! Not only does this give us a monster draft pool, but it also opens up so many more possibilities.
College pitching- Perhaps Tony's guy Tegan Kuhns (RHP Tennessee) could make it to pick 29. Other college arms include Cole Carlon (LHP ASU), Mason Edwards (LHP USC), Liam Peterson (RHP Florida), Hunter Dietz (LHP Arkansas), Cade Townsend (RHP Ole Miss), Logan Reddemann (RHP UCLA). Cam Flukey (RHP Coastal Carolina) probably won't make it that far even with the time missed due to rib injury.
This might be the strongest prep pitching class in a long time
Prep Lefties- Carson Boleman (South Carolina), Sean Duncan (Canada), Logan Schmidt (socal), Bo Holloway (Tennessee). Gio Rojas (Florida) and Brody Bomila (Massachusetts) are the two top prep lefties and likely will not make it to pick 29.
Prep Righties- Jensen Hirschkorn (RHP, Kingsburg CA), Coleman Borthwick (FL), Denton Lord (FL), Kaeden Waechter (FL), Wilson Andersen (FL), Cooper Harris (TX), Savion Sims (TX), Cole Koeninger (TX and a Tennessee commit) Kaiden McCarthy (Vermont and also a Tennessee commit), Joseph Contreras (GA)
College Hitters: Daniel Jackson (C, Georgia), Carson Tinney (C, Texas), Aiden Robbins (OF Texas), Derek Curriel (OF LSU), Jake Brown (OF LSU), Jarren Advincula (2B Georgia Tech), Carson Kerce (SS Georgia Tech), Caden Sorrell (OF Texas A&M), Zion Rose (OF Louisville), Logan Hughes (OF Texas Tech), Eric Becker (SS Virginia), Chris Rembert (2B/OF Auburn). Arkansas catcher and bay area native Ryder Helfrick doesn't appear likely to make it down to 29.
Prep Hitters- Trevor Condon (OF LHH Georgia, committed to Tennessee!), Beau Peterson (3B LHH Kansas), Bo Lowrance (3B LHH, South Carolina), Taj Marchand (SS/3B RHH South Carolina), Aiden Ruiz (SS LHH from New York) Connor Comeau (SS/3B LHH from Texas), Cole Prosek (3B/OF LHH from Mississippi), Will Brick (C RHH from Tennessee), Sean Dunlap (C RHH from Illinois). Two local prospects Tyler Spangler (SS LHH from De La Salle) and Archer Horn (SS LHH St. Ignacius) are both committed to Stanford and who knows how that all shakes out.
Tons of good options at picks 29 & 55 (as well as pick 90 for that matter)
"4. Giants: Jacob Lombard, SS, Gulliver Prep, Miami (No. 7)
Word is that Posey, now president of baseball operations for his former team, would do whatever it takes to float Cholowsky down to No. 4. More likely, he'll be looking at some combination of Lackey, Flora and Lombard. Other clubs believe the Giants' preference would be Lombard, a premium athlete who has assuaged concerns about his bat this spring after a lackluster performance on the showcase circuit."
Any Cholowsky talk is just pie in the sky bullshit.
2026 prospects:
Jackson Flora (RHP UCSB) at CSUN: 4IP, 8H, 4ER, 1BB, 7K, 96 pitches (got hit around early by the Northridge lineup including top outfield prospect Matthew Thomas who went 3-3 with a homer against him)
Cameron Flukey (RHP Coastal Carolina) vs Old Dominion: 2.2IP, 5H, 4ER, 1BB, 4K, 57 pitches
Mason Edwards (LHP USC) vs Nevada: 6IP, 4H, 0R, 1BB, 10K, 94 pitches

Cade Townsend (RHP Ole Miss) vs Texas A&M: 3.1IP, 5H, 7R, 6ER, 1BB, 4K, 65 pitches (bad day for him and Ole Miss pitching staff)

Trey Beard (LHP FSU) at Clemson: 5.1IP, 5H, 3ER, 1BB, 4K
