New skates! Roces 1992

I started inline skating about 16 years ago and had purchased hard boots from Dicks Sporting Goods. I wish I remembered the brand because they were very sturdy. I think they were mens and they were gray and blue. I only went skating a handful of times and then 2 years after that I decided to “upgrade” to something prettier and got myself the K2 Alexis 84 BOA. I thought they were awesome but…. As it turns out they were not doing me any favors…. The boa system is nice though. I hadn’t researched anything about hard/soft or wheel sizes.

To be clear I am still at “beginner” level and I am fine with that.
I stopped skating at some point until the other day (fourteen years later) I took the K2 out for a spin. Over 2 weeks I went skating but felt like I was rolling out of control on slight downhill inclines, and also did not feel they were responsive. I would do only flat parts of the loop at the local park because i was scared of any hills even small. Also the heel brake was so awkward to engage because of how far back the wheel base extended. So after much research I got myself the Roces 1992. (Sized up)

Wow! What a difference!! 76mm wheels and #5 bearings vs 84mm and #7. Hard boots vs soft. I only have to lift my toes slightly and the heel brake engages. I wanted to feel a little more grounded and a little less momentum and that’s exactly the outcome. Love my new skates soooo much. I went skating in them three times and I feel like I have already improved.

My First Hermes 3000

and by first I mean only.

I picked up my Ambassador awhile ago after it retired from the Emmaus Public Library; then I fought hard and won the Rocket on a goodwill auction. I figured with those two, who needs a 3K? But on fb marketplace the Spanish layout and boxy design were calling my name

I just picked up this beaut after having my eye on it (fb mkpl) for months! Holy off-gassing, Batman :) This looks like a job for the pros. Can't wait to see it shine again

Dad (85) had triple bypass last Friday and recovery is very slow

Hi all,
New here. My dad (85) had planned cardiac surgery a week ago today. He had 5 blockages and they bypassed 3, so triple bypass.
He was in ICU 4 nights and was moved to a normal room.

He seems almost worse each day?

He was told that average hospital stay is 7-10 days, but now we are being told that he needs to go to a rehab before going home because he is too weak, has incontinence, and can barely walk. Needs assistance of two people.

I am very concerned. This was a planned surgery but also came as a bit of a shock. He was practically symptom free prior to the blockages being discovered as part of a hernia pre-op prep.

This is truly awful. For the weeks leading up to the surgery I was a ball of anxiety thinking he’d die on the table.
Now I am worried he will die in recovery.

This sucks.

Hospital chaplain came to talk to me and now I am taking that as some kind of horrible terrible omen.

My dad considered not doing the surgery. But he was told that he was a ticking time bomb. So he did the surgery and here we are.

He’s a retired surgeon by the way. So I cant imagine what he’s thinking or feeling right now. I love my dad. Life is going to suck without him and yes i know in terms of dad years, I got spoiled
