Are these seriously the only positions available in Nassau County? Where are the non-competitive roles listed?
Besides these two most recently posted roles and older positions, there are no other careers listed.

Hi all,
I would like some help brainstorming career pathways. My interests have changed throughout my educational journey, and while I initially had a strong interest in policing, I now desire to do something different in the areas of compliance, intelligence analysis, and research or law-related roles.
The following describes my background:
I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and Legal Studies. I am actively pursuing my Master of Science degree in the same field. Throughout my studies, I have ascertained considerable knowledge in Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, and Criminal Procedure Law. As a Graduate Research Assistant, I have been able to apply my knowledge and research and write about the constitutionality of NYPD stop-and-frisk practices and work alongside my department chairperson, to complete his book, a project which details the history of police practices and contemporary efforts to reform them. I have also served on the University moot court team, moderated by a county supreme court justice, where I led student prosecution and defense teams in trial preparation, including evidence review, direct and cross examinations, and re-directs.
Besides my educational background, I have also worked for podiatric and pediatric medical practices to ensure HIPAA and OSHA compliance. In those roles, I led administrative and clinical teams to ensure ethical client care, as well as full and proper recordkeeping.
I currently reside on Long Island and have been researching roles at local agencies such as the Nassau County Police Department and the county’s civil service department, Suffolk County Police Department and the county’s civil service department, Nassau County District Attorney’s Office, Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, Queens District Attorney’s Office, Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, and medical companies like Henry Schein, Mt. Sinai South Nassau, Mercy Hospital, and others. Besides LinkedIn and Indeed, I have also looked into job boards such as USAJobs, GovernmentJobs, StateJobs.ny.gov, and CityJobs.nyc.gov. It has been very difficult to find higher-paying positions here in New York, but I want to keep trying.
My university department chairperson has suggested law school or a PhD to me multiple times, but the only thing holding me back is the expense. If I worked towards a law degree, my goal would be to work for organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union or the New York Civil Liberties Union.
Before I even consider law school or a PhD, I would like some help brainstorming other roles or pathways that are more feasible to obtain, already qualified for, and have not have heard of before.
If you would like to DM me in lieu of responding here, please send over a chat request.
Thank you!

How can I improve my resume for an entry-level policy analyst, compliance, or investigator role? Am I underselling myself?
I want to be able to search Google for jobs in a specific field posted within the last 24 hours. Is there a way for this process to be automated where I receive an email of those results every day at 8 AM?
I want to be able to search Google for jobs in a specific field posted within the last 24 hours. Is there a way for this process to be automated where I receive an email of those results every day at 8 AM?
In your opinion what is the better option?
• Stick with Criminal Justice graduate assistantship for two additional semesters where I get one class for free each semester as well as a $500 stipend each semester, plus working two other flexible jobs. This would allow me to gain more skills and experience.
• Or take a full time Loss Prevention job for $20 an hour plus a 30% discount on tuition (not really the position I want - I want more so a compliance or investigation position in the criminal justice field. I am overqualified for the position and would be underpaid for the degree I have and am working towards. The position only requires a high school diploma). This means I would give up on my Graduate Assistantship before the two semesters.
I don’t actually even want an LP career. It’s just the easiest job to secure for the 30% tuition discount since it’s CRJ-related according to my chairperson. I’m not sure he is giving sound advice when it comes to loss prevention for someone who wants to work in the criminal justice system.
I am not being contacted by hiring managers for compliance/investigation-related roles. Is my resume the issue? Do I simply not have the experience needed, even for an entry-level role? My university's career center has reviewed my resume many times. I do not know how else to improve the resume. If someone has tips that would be great. Or ideas for titles of roles I should be looking at.
My resume spans two pages because USAJobs allows two pages (I am not just looking at that job board).
I applied and was interviewed for a Discovery Expediter role with the Nassau County DA’s Office. If the interview went well, I would be hired provisionally until the next civil service exam comes out. My interviewers said something to the effect of, if I am not a top scorer, I would not be able to continue the job, and even if I do score well, I still may not be selected to continue the job. So if the job is not a guarantee who would take it? Am I misinterpreting what they said?
Another thing I don’t understand is why the interviewers asked me what role I see myself doing in the future. I stated I see myself doing this role, but I have looked into becoming an intelligence analyst, for which there are no positions available within the Nassau County Police Department. Why would they ask me that? They said “Well, people \*can\* make this a career.” Did they say this because there’s no way to advance? Why would I want to advance from this position if it’s harder to secure other positions (like intel analyst) if I’d already be earning a high salary (close to six figures) after some time?
