Team lead was pushing a tough deadline, I pushed for 3 more days for it. Manager went with my deadline, and now I'm scared

I'm scared the team lead is gonna be a dick now. The stakeholders was an internal team, and I know that the hard deadline was doable, but it's tough.

I feel like usually with OE I just suck it up, but I am 2 months into this role and wanted to set standards and expectations. I'm scared he's going to call me out in meetings, be on my ass, etc.

My manager was really nice about it though, and said they want realistic deadlines not optimistic ones. Anyone have similar experiences?

Anyone push your limits with OE? When did you realize you had to cut back in J’s?

I have 3 J’s going well. I work about 25h a week.

I can probably take a 4th, but only if meetings go well. I’m considering taking a 4th, but don’t want to fly too close to the sun.

I also do want to just test my limits and fly a little close. Anyone have some advice on when you finally had to cut back?

Anyone else here lie about your address to get out of RTO?

For J2 and J3, I lied and put my parents’ address. I’m worried bambooHR will detect my IP and I’ll be caught that I live in the same city as the office.

Anyone else deal with this? I’m heavily considering getting a travel router and putting it at my parents’ place.

Got an interview for a 20/h contract

They asked if Im going to do it on the side

Should I say yes? Or that I’m going to leave my current role? If I say yes, it may be easier to tell them to meet around my main job’s meetings.

I can’t tell if they’re baiting me though

Absolutely sick of my new J2, but I can't bring myself to quit..

It was supposed to be my new J4, but J2 laid me off, so it's replaced it.

The money is good, but I'm a senior in it and it's been a lot more tough. The expectations are definitely a lot higher, and I can't live up to them. Even if I had one J I'm not sure what they expect of me can be executed.

I hated being only at 2 Js, and feel like 3 is the medium. I can do the work, but with helping talk in meetings is tough for me.

Anyone have any advice? It's been a month. We have a full week of planning and it's been a full week of 9-5 meetings. It's absurd

Do you plan to do OE forever?

I want to do it forever. In my mind, I feel like I'd stop doing in 10 years when I'm mortgage free with a lot of savings, but I'm not sure yet.

Do you leave a job when it’s not a good fit, or do you quite quit?

New J2 is NOT a good fits It’s not that it’s not OE friendly, it’s okay.
It’s just that the expectation on me is insanely high because I was hired as a senior, but I am newly senior.
It’s not a good work culture too. Putting “joking” blame on others, and BS small talk convos of “being friends”, I just don’t like it. It’s also a different language

I’m trying to actively replace it, but not much luck yet on interviews. Should I just quit it even though I hate it, or quiet quit?

How does BambooHR know my location? I lied to get exempt from RTO, but it's saying my location is the same city as the office

I lied to get out of RTO and said I was a city away to be exempt from RTO.

I'm afraid it's somehow getting my IP and feeding it into BambooHR

J3 summer party, or J2 planning meeting, which one would you make?

J3 I got out of RTO and moved away. They expect me to come to events like summer parties.

J2 I am new at, and have a full week of planning the quarter. Essentially it's a week full of meetings. It may or may not be in person, but I want to build good rapport here.

Which one would you make it to? Considering just doing a sick day for J2, but not sure.

Anyone have good claude commands to self review PRs, but ensures it won't go above and beyond from the ticket?

I find myself constantly trying to balance doing well, but not doing too much and over refactoring or going above and beyond. I just want claude to solve my ticket.

Thanks

UPDATE: Remote job turning into hybrid day 1, need some advice

Previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/overemployed/s/XbEVFIyz4M

I ended up messaging my manager to clarify expectations since I joined under the understanding that this role was remote with occasional office events.

I basically said I was caught off guard by the hybrid comment and wanted to align expectations early because I may have constraints around regular commuting after I relocate.

Their response was:
“After you relocate, biweekly once or when we made a plan to visit office is okay”

I genuinely can’t tell how to interpret this. Are they saying:
“biweekly is expected minimum”
OR
“either biweekly OR occasional planned visits are both fine”

To me it sounds intentionally flexible, but I also don’t want to assume too much and get blindsided later.

At this point I’m leaning toward just doing good work for the next month, building trust, and not over-pushing the issue unless it becomes stricter later on.

Curious how others would read this response.

Remote job turning into hybrid on day 1, need some advice

Pretty conflicted about a new role and could use some outside perspective.

Got laid off from my J2 last month, and this new job kind of ended up replacing it. First day was onboarding and already a few things feel off.

The role was originally sold to me as remote. I even have emails from recruiting confirming it’s remote and that office visits would just be occasional (like planning days or team collaboration days).

But on day 1, my manager told me I’m basically the "first hybrid employee" on the team because I live close to the office. That was not mentioned during the process. He then said I should probably come in every other week, though he also told me I don’t need to worry about it for the next month because things are busy.

So right now I’m kind of in limbo. I could push back immediately, but I also don’t want to create friction in my first week. At the same time, biweekly commute isn’t really realistic for me long-term with my other commitments.

I’m thinking of just doing the next month, building rapport, proving myself, and then revisiting expectations once I’ve settled in or told to go into office.

Has anyone dealt with something similar where "remote" slowly turned into hybrid after starting? How did you handle it without burning bridges?

I really want to keep this J. I'm not sure if it's a good fit yet, but it won't be a fit if it is hybrid.

Thanks

Tool to auto-play prerecorded standup updates during meeting conflicts?

I have standup conflicts every day, though I’ve only actually been called on in both meetings at the same time twice.

It’d be helpful to have a program where I could click a button to automatically unmute and play a pre-recorded status update I had set beforehand.

I can see this being useful for just responses too. Like "sounds good" or "thanks", as I'm talking for one of the J's. I can definitely do the multitasking, but cannot physically multitask my talking.

Has anyone here on-boarded on a J3 and J4 weeks apart?

Is this a bad idea? I find I like to leave 6 months to make a good rep for myself, but with AI I feel invincible lol.

It was my first ever OE role. I was excelling well, and was soon going to be promoted. I just lost access this morning, no warning or anything

I’m grateful to be OE and not have this be my only income that I depend on. I just signed a J4 offer, so it was good timing

I was excited to do 4, but I’ll do 3 for a bit.

Gotta look out for yourselves, very surprised this happened. This is why we OE
