How to respond to friend’s remark on egg donation

Hi everyone,

Hoping to find someone here who has experienced the same and can give me some advice, because my head is spinning. Actually cried over this a lot today.

My very close friend who supported me through thick and thin the last years and I had conversation about my fertility journey yesterday in which she all of a sudden shared with me she would never feel comfortable donating her egg to anyone.

Now, this is all hypothetical because we are both 40 and I was never going to ask her for anything or expecting anything . But it really felt like a punch in the gut to hear her say “it would feel like giving away my own child” while she knows I am in the process of deciding if egg donation is the right way for me. I’ve never heard her say anything negative about gamete donation before. I thought she was on board and supporting my journey. She even said a few years ago she would’ve become a single mom if she had not found her boyfriend.

I’m very torn between the “it’s her opinion and that’s fine” and “is she rejecting my life choices?”. Or is it something she wouldn’t do but she’s ok with people donating to banks?

I thought she was supportive of my choices, but now I don’t know. Has anyone been in this situation and what did you do? I’m so torn between accepting her personal beliefs and it not being any judgement over mine, but it feels like she’s judging my decisions. But I want to decide if I should respond to this or not, or just let it be. Any advice?

Asymmetry on iPhone/Apple Health

Hi everyone! I wanted to ask if someone had the same experience as me as I have never come across this specific thing in the four years I have long COVID and connecting with others.

A few months ago I accidentally checked my iPhone health data and saw this graph on asymmetry. Apparently it measures how balanced your walking gait is and it’s normally under 10% for healthy people. I knew my balance was low since getting long COVID because my phone send a message about it every half a year. I looked it up and although it’s not medical gear the sensors in the phone are supposed to measure this phenomenon quite well when you have the phone near your hip when walking. Moreover, this is average data of months and years so I guess quite reliable for trend prediction.

But then I saw this…around 2% average asymmetry the months before I got COVID (June 2022) going to >50% in the first 3 years and last year finally going down again. When I zoom in per week I can see the first spike was in the week after the initial infection. While the average is a little bit over 50% I had days where my asymmetry was almost 100%. These graphs were quite erratic when zooming in per week or month.

Somewhere around the 3 year mark it finally settled and I have less spikes, most weeks are between 20 and 30% asymmetry. I feel a bit better than the first 3 years but I am still quite sick (Bell 30-40). I did start visiting neuro physio to find out more and hopefully get some more improvements.

Does anyone recognize this? Surely I can’t be the only one?
