Is it wise to change the gasket myself? or should i hand it over to a mechanic
This is a 2012 Hyundai elantra diesel 1.6 CRDi engine . The previous owner seemed to abuse the vehicle. I got the car for dirt cheap money 8 months ago. I love repairing the car myself ( had done steering rack repairs , strut replacements etc.. for this car by myself) but i never touched an engine ever.
From my limited experience, it seems like the valve cover gasket is failing and the car drips oil ( about 2 drops per day after driving the car). Is this something i can work on? I've read it's difficult to pull the injectors and it can be time consuming and high risk depending on the tools we have. consider myself an average joe.
Are these hyundai diesel engines more forgiving if i just let it run and refill the oil when necessary? i'd love to hear from an actual mechanic or an expert who does engine work.
let me know if it's something i can do or should i hand over the keys to a mechanic
